About the role:

We are currently looking for a Payroll Team Leader to join our CFO Solutions team on a full-time basis. You'll be responsible for leading a high-performing payroll team that delivers accurate, compliant and exceptional payroll services to a diverse portfolio of Australian clients. This role provides technical leadership, operational oversight and people development while driving continuous improvement, innovation and outstanding client outcomes.

Working closely with the senior manager of the team, you'll ensure that payroll services are delivered efficiently, legislative obligations are met, client expectations are exceeded, and the team continues to develop professionally and technically.

Leading a team comprising of Australian and Philippines-based payroll professionals, you'll help coordinate resources to promote knowledge sharing, develop team capability and foster a unified, high-performing culture. You'll also work collaboratively across the broader business to deliver integrated client solutions, and support continued growth.

Role responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Team Leadership

- Lead and mentor the payroll team through coaching and feedback
- Monitor team KPIs, recognise achievements and address performance issues
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews and development planning
- Support onboarding and training of new team members

Payroll operations & workflow management

- Oversee day-to-day allocation and management of payroll workflows across the team
- Coordinate forward planning across weekly, fortnightly, monthly and ad hoc payroll cycles.




- Monitor capacity, workloads, leave coverage and competing priorities.
- Ensure payroll instructions, approvals and supporting documentation are received and actioned.

Payroll service delivery

- Oversee and maintain the delivery of end-to-end payroll services for multiple clients across various industries
- Prepare and review payroll reconciliations, statutory reporting and legislative submissions including PAYG, Superannuation, Payroll Tax and WorkCover
- Lead payroll projects such as implementations, system configurations, migrations, remediation, integrations and ad hoc engagements
- Lead implementation and optimisation of payroll systems and integrations with time and attendance, rostering, accounting and HR platforms.
- Ensure confidential payroll information is managed securely.

Quality assurance & regulatory compliance

- Review payrolls completed by team members
- Maintain oversight or client-specific payroll procedures and standards
- Maintain a sound working knowledge of Fair Work requirements, Contemporary Awards and Enterprise Agreements to support accurate payroll processing and identify matters requiring escalation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and obligations

Annual compliance & End of Financial Year (EOFY)

- Coordinate annual payroll compliance activities.
- Prepare and review Payroll Tax and WorkCover reconciliations.
- Review STP Finalisation and annual payroll reconciliations.
- Prepare and review QLeave, TPAR, WGEA and other statutory reporting where applicable.
- Support payroll year-end remediation and client queries.

Technical support & payroll expertise

- Provide technical leadership on complex payroll matters.
- Research complex payroll issues and provide practical solutions.
- Act as the primary escalation point for payroll processing and system issues.

Client service and relationship management

- Deliver exceptional payroll services through timely and professional communication
- Develop trusted client relationships and manage client expectations
- Resolve complex payroll enquiries efficiently

Collaboration & teamwork

- Collaborate effectively with clients,



managers and internal service lines.
- Build strong relationships across Payroll, Bookkeeping, CFO Solutions, Accounting and HR teams.
- Provide regular operational updates to your manager

Continuous improvement & innovation

- Identify and implement payroll process, workflow and automation improvements.
- Drive standardisation of procedures, templates and documentation.
- Lead adoption of payroll technologies and workflow systems.
- Promote innovation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Who we're looking for: To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

- 3+ years' experience as a Payroll Specialist or Senior Payroll Specialist processing Australian payrolls
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a prior leadership or supervisor role
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment obligations
- Sound knowledge of Fair Work requirements, Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements
- Experience with Xero Payroll, Employment Hero, KeyPay, MYOB or similar platforms
- Experience with Tanda, Deputy, Humanforce, or similar workforce management systems
- Experience implementing payroll systems, integrations and process improvements is highly regarded
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Payroll, HR or related discipline is preferred
- Xero Payroll and Advisor certifications are highly regarded
