At COTA Victoria, we champion the rights, interests and wellbeing of older Victorians. For almost 75 years, we've been a leading voice on ageing, influencing government, industry and community attitudes while ensuring older people remain at the centre of decision-making and public policy.

We're seeking an experienced Policy and Advocacy Advisor to join our growing Policy and Advocacy team. This is an exciting opportunity to influence policy, drive systemic change and improve outcomes for older people across Victoria.

About the Role

Reporting to the Policy and Advocacy Manager, you will play a key role in developing evidence-based policy and leading advocacy initiatives that influence government policy, legislation and sector reform. You will collaborate with stakeholders across government, community organisations, peak bodies and the ageing sector to advance the rights and wellbeing of older Victorians.

Key responsibilities include

- Developing policy submissions, briefing papers, reports and position statements.
- Leading and contributing to advocacy campaigns and reform initiatives.
- Building strong partnerships with government, sector and community stakeholders.
- Coordinating sector engagement activities and consultations.
- Supporting the Victorian Elder Abuse Strategic Alliance (VEASA).
- Monitoring emerging policy and legislative issues affecting older people.
- Representing COTA Victoria and Seniors Rights Victoria in meetings, forums and consultations.

About You





You are a passionate and strategic thinker with strong policy development skills and a commitment to social justice and human rights.

You will bring

✔ Experience researching, analysing and developing evidence-based policy advice, submissions and reports.

✔ Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality policy documents for diverse audiences.

✔ Experience building productive relationships with government, community organisations and other stakeholders.

✔ The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes.

✔ Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, social sciences, public administration, health, community development or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Employment Details

Location: Melbourne (St Kilda Road) with versatile working arrangements available.

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time (1.0 FTE).

Classification: SCHADS Award – Community Development Worker Level 5

Employment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Check.
