About the role In the position of Senior Director for Strategy and Operations at Flagship Labs, you will oversee the execution of company creation activities for two Origination Teams. Your role will involve collaborating with team leaders to enhance scientific innovation and entrepreneurial efforts, while ensuring efficient organizational processes and resource management.

What you'll do

- Collaborate with Origination Team Leaders to establish and communicate organizational goals, ensuring clarity and tracking of objectives.
- Work alongside leadership from portfolio companies to facilitate the timely execution of complex projects that drive value creation milestones.
- Partner with finance, HR, and individual originators to provide insights on resource allocation across all initiatives managed by the Origination Team.
- Coordinate with various Flagship Pioneering functions, such as Finance, HR, Legal, and Business Development, to foster effective collaboration with portfolio companies.
- Organize and lead Origination Team meetings, ensuring thorough preparation and follow-up on decisions and action items.
- Take a leadership role in identifying and implementing strategic initiatives that influence the portfolio.
- Contribute to the development of high-quality reports and presentations for Origination Team meetings.
- Utilize program management tools and AI technologies to enhance tracking and reporting efficiency.
- Maintain and share best practices for company ideation, creation, and fundraising readiness.




- Promote open communication within the Origination Team and across portfolio companies.
- Seek opportunities for collaboration between Origination Team projects and Flagship capabilities, tracking these partnerships.
- Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and HR to ensure timely hiring and onboarding of new team members.
- Guide resource allocation to align with development and execution priorities.
- Actively contribute to the development and sustainability of team culture.
- Work closely with Finance on budgeting for the Origination Team.
- Identify and escalation issues impacting project execution, proposing solutions for mitigation.
- Foster a positive team workplace that encourages high performance.

Requirements

- A Master's or Bachelor's degree in life sciences or engineering is preferred, with relevant work experience considered. A Ph.D. is advantageous.
- At least 7 years of experience in the biotech industry, particularly in drug discovery or development, or life sciences engineering.
- A background in scientific research, ideally with diverse disease-area knowledge; management consulting experience in these fields is also valued.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities, such as RNA therapies, biologics, and small molecules, is a plus.




- Strong understanding of the biopharmaceutical landscape and life sciences technologies, including key players and emerging trends.
- Experience with program, project, or portfolio management and proficiency with project management tools is preferred.
- A strategic approach combined with operational discipline.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to inspire teams.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex scientific and business concepts to senior stakeholders.
- Solid financial acumen.
- A commitment to personal and professional growth, with a willingness to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Availability to work onsite in Cambridge, MA, ideally five days a week, with some flexibility for four days.

Salary and benefits

The compensation for this role ranges from $220,000 to $270,000, influenced by the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
