Dohrmann Consulting

Melbourne

Dohrmann Consulting is Australia’s leading safety and ergonomics consultancy. We provide practical ergonomics and safety consulting advice and independent expert opinion in personal injury and other legal matters. Our work helps clients understand how incidents occur, how systems fail, and how workplaces, products and processes can be made safer.

We are a specialist SME with a professional team of engineers, ergonomists, human factors specialists, biomechanists, health professionals and safety consultants. We are looking for a practical, commercially sensible Operations Manager to help our consultants deliver high-quality work reliably and efficiently.

This is a hands‑on operations role focused on consulting delivery, service planning, consultant line management, project coordination and clear client communication.

The role

The Operations Manager will keep our work moving efficiently and reliably.

It will be critical for you to quickly understand how Dohrmann Consulting produces its work: site inspections, interviews, file reviews, technical analysis, photographs, standards research, report drafting, quality review and client communication. To succeed, you will need to understand that workflow, keep it moving, and help improve it.

You will also line manage the consultant team, providing practical leadership, clear expectations, workload support, coaching, follow‑up and accountability.

What you will do

In this role, you will:

- communicate and negotiate with clients about new project timing, scope and delivery requirements;
- plan and coordinate the daily and weekly flow of consulting and expert work;
- maintain visibility over project status using Outlook, Dynamics, SharePoint and other business tools;
- work with the administration team to promptly triage and plan incoming matters;
- allocate and balance consultant workloads by reference to deadlines, capacity, expertise and priorities;
- monitor deadlines and follow up with job managers and assistants wherever required;

- line manage consultants through regular check‑ins, workload discussions, practical performance support and development planning;
- identify bottlenecks and improve consulting delivery systems; and
- translate the Managing Director’s priorities into practical operational action.

About you

You are likely to have managed service delivery, operations, projects or professional teams in a small or medium‑sized business. Experience in consulting, professional services, engineering, health and safety, legal support, insurance, allied health or another deadline‑driven professional environment would be helpful.

You do not need to be an ergonomist or engineer. However, you do need to understand how professional work is produced, how technical people think, and how to keep complex service delivery moving without becoming bureaucratic.

You will be highly organised, practical, calm under pressure and comfortable following up busy professional people. You will understand that good operations management is active planning, coordination and improvement — not just administration.

Essential attributes

We are looking for someone who is/has:

- strongly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once;
- an experienced people manager with the ability to manage professional consultants respectfully and firmly;
- confident using Outlook calendars, shared diaries, SharePoint, Teams, Word and Excel;
- able to learn and use CRM or job management systems such as Dynamics;
- clear and professional in written and verbal communication;

- confident speaking with clients about project timing, scope and delivery;
- sound judgment, discretion and attention to follow‑up;
- a practical improvement mindset; and
- comfortable working in a founder‑led SME where priorities can change quickly.

Experience that would help

The following experience would be desirable:

- operations, service delivery or project management in professional services, consulting, engineering, construction or a similar deadline‑driven environment;
- line management of professional or technical staff;
- experience in consulting, legal, insurance, engineering, health, safety or expert services;
- use of Microsoft Dynamics or a similar CRM/job management system;
- workflow, capacity planning or project delivery improvement experience; and
- experience effectively managing client expectations in a deadline‑driven workplace.

Why join Dohrmann Consulting?

At Dohrmann Consulting, you will work with a capable and committed team doing meaningful, varied and intellectually interesting work. You will also have a genuine opportunity to improve how a respected specialist consultancy delivers its services.

We offer:

- a competitive salary expected to be in the range of $135,000-$155,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience;
- flexible working arrangements, including flexible start and finish times, where compatible with operational needs;
- regular office‑based interaction with the Managing Director, senior consultants and the consulting team;
- the opportunity to shape and improve consulting delivery systems in a respected specialist SME;
- exposure to interesting work across safety, ergonomics, human factors, engineering and expert opinion matters;
- professional development relevant to operations, leadership and service delivery;
- easy public transport access and free parking at our inner Melbourne office; and
- free daily lunch in the Dohrmann HQ kitchen.
