About the role Fair Trading Digital is implementing a multi-year Digital Modernisation Strategy. As a Principal Engineer, you will provide Salesforce delivery, platform engineering, and release management for the program. You will do development and deployment of Salesforce solutions while establishing scalable CI/CD practices and release governance to support reliable delivery across all environments.
You will be responsible for Salesforce development, configuration, and administration to ensure platform quality, stability, and successful delivery. You will also lead release engineering activities for establishing and managing Salesforce environments, deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines, release governance, and production deployments.
Your Responsibilities Platform Engineering & Technical Delivery:
- Contribute to Salesforce solution delivery through development, configuration and platform enhancements where required.
- Provide expertise in one or more technical disciplines including Apex, integrations, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Modern JavaScript and CSS best practices, OmniStudio, Experience Cloud development.
- Support the implementation of scalable, secure and maintainable Salesforce solutions aligned with program objectives. DevOps Leadership & Release Management:
- Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Salesforce cli commands, GitHub Actions or equivalent tooling.
- Develop and maintain deployment automation using YAML pipelines, Shell/Bash scripts and release orchestration frameworks.
- Define, implement and continuously improve Salesforce release management processes, deployment standards and environment strategies.
- Manage pull request validation and deployment processes, branching strategies, merge activities,
hotfixes and cherry-pick deployments.
- Lead release planning, production cutovers, rollback planning and post-deployment validation activities.
- Ensure deployment traceability, release governance, compliance and auditability across the program.
Risk & quality assurance:
- Identify and mitigate technical risks.
- Proactively support with defect triage and take responsibility for remediation.
- Identify and mitigate deployment, platform and technical delivery risks.
- Ensure quality through automated validation, testing, code reviews and release controls.
- Troubleshoot and resolve deployment failures, environment issues and production incidents.
- Maintain platform stability, reliability and operational readiness through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure decisions and actions regarding build choices and code changes are traceable.
Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery Support:
- Collaborate with product managers, leads, delivery teams and vendors to coordinate release activities and delivery schedules.
- Communicate release impacts, deployment readiness and technical risks.
- Support go-live activities, release cutovers and transition to ongoing operations and support.
- Help establish the long-term support model, ensuring operational readiness and service continuity post go-live.
- Collaborate with and oversee vendor technical counterparts where needed. To be successful in this role you will demonstrate (required attributes):
- Strong Salesforce platform expertise including development, configuration and administration experience.
- Proven experience establishing and managing Salesforce CI/CD and release management processes in enterprise environments.
- Deep expertise in at least one or more Salesforce technical discipline, such as Apex and integrations (backend) or Lightning Web Components and Experience Cloud (frontend), Modern JavaScript, OmniStudio.
- Strong understanding of Salesforce security, environment management and deployment best practices.
- Solid experience developing and maintaining YAML pipelines and Shell/Bash scripts for automated deployments and release processes.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Salesforce DX or similar Salesforce DevOps tooling.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce cli, Git, pull requests, branching strategies, merge management and deployment automation.
- Experience managing production releases, environment governance, cutover activities and post-release support.
- Knowledge of, or ability to adapt to NSW Government practices and standards.
Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at 154,231 base plus superannuation
