Sandfire Resources is a leading ASX-listed global copper producer that has recently entered into a dynamic partnership with Havilah Resources to advance the highly promising Kalkaroo Copper-Gold project in South Australia. Activities on site are ramping up, having established key infrastructure, including a new 80-person camp, and commencing a planned ~130km infill and extension drilling program to support completion of our pre-feasibility study during H2 FY28. We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Principal Environment Approvals to join our experienced multi-disciplinary Projects and Studies team at our newly established Adelaide office.

Reporting to the Manager Environment Approvals, this role is responsible for leading the technical delivery of high‑quality environmental approvals and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documentation in support of Sandfire's major development projects.
The Principal Environment Approvals provides expert technical input across pre‑feasibility, feasibility and project delivery phases, ensuring environmental approvals are well planned, robustly assessed and aligned with regulatory and internal requirements. Working closely with project teams, engineers and specialists, the role coordinates environmental studies, manages specialist consultants and supports integration of environmental requirements into project planning and design.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Support Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and approvals processes to secure timely State, Federal and other jurisdictional environmental approvals.
- Prepare, coordinate and deliver high-quality environmental approvals documentation, management plans and supporting technical studies.
- Provide technical and tactical environmental advice to project teams to enable robust environmental assessments and approval strategies.
- Develop and maintain approvals plans, schedules and budgets to support PFS, DFS, and operational project delivery.
- Ensure approvals documentation meets regulatory expectations, internal standards and quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up to date approvals information within integrated project schedules and tracking tools.
- Engage, manage and review consultants delivering environmental studies and approvals documentation, ensuring quality, consistency and adherence to timeframes and budgets.
- Support delivery and implementation of environmental management systems aligned with Group requirements.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to coordinate environmental and social studies, Aboriginal heritage surveys, and approvals documentation.
- Support engagement with government,
community and other stakeholders to satisfy environmental and heritage approval processes.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar role within the Mining industry.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering Greenfields environmental approvals for mining projects.
- Proven experience in coordinating environmental impact assessments and baseline studies.
- Experience in managing external consultants and technical specialists.
- Strong understanding of environmental risk assessment, EIA/ESIA processes, impact mitigation and permitting strategies.
- Proficiency in QGIS or ArcGIS Pro.
- Experience supporting cultural heritage processes and Traditional Owner engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to work within multi-disciplinary project teams.
