Principal Java Software Engineer

Canberra ACT | Hybrid | 12-month contract + 2 x 12-month extensions

Darwin Consultancy is looking for an experienced Principal Java Software Engineer to join a long-term Australian Government program supporting a life-critical application used for maritime and aviation search and rescue operations.

You'll work with a small, highly skilled team developing and supporting enterprise Java applications across cloud and backend technologies.

What you'll be doing

- Develop and maintain enterprise Java applications
- Build REST and SOAP services
- Develop React-based web applications
- Design and develop Oracle database solutions
- Work with AWS cloud services
- Contribute to CI/CD using Jenkins, Git and Maven
- Produce technical documentation
- Support production releases and occasional on-call support

What we're looking for

- 8+ years' Java development experience




- Strong Spring / Spring Boot experience
- Oracle Database and SQL
- REST APIs
- JPA / Hibernate
- ReactJS, HTML and CSS
- AWS experience
- Jenkins, Git and Maven
- Linux/Unix
- Solid communication and documentation skills
- Experience working in Agile teams

Experience with Java EE, JMS, SOAP, OpenAPI and CloudFormation is highly regarded.

Requirements

- Australian Citizen
- Baseline Security Clearance, or ability to obtain one
- Able to attend Canberra for the initial onboarding period before moving to a hybrid arrangement
