Do you want to be part of a team that is actively shaping Queensland’s future? We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Planner to directly influence the policies, legislative reforms, and strategic partnerships that support housing delivery, expand housing choice, enable well-planned infrastructure, and drive economic growth across the state.
You will drive strategic policy development and reform implementation, contributing directly to outcomes that matter—creating the essential conditions for more homes, better-connected communities, and a stronger Queensland economy. If you are passionate about planning policy, thrive in dynamic environments, and want to make a lasting impact on Queensland’s communities, we invite you to bring your expertise to our team.
We're looking for the best-suited applicant for the role. We focus on your strengths by assessing a combination of your competencies, knowledge-based skills and behaviours.
For this role we are looking for how you:
- Manage, influence and develop land use planning strategies, policies, and project plans across the policy cycle to deliver timely high-quality outputs in a fast-paced policy workplace.
- Manage staff performance and mentor and coach team members to ensure productivity, high quality standards and overall effectiveness
- Research, analyse and interpret planning and other relevant legislation, as well as emerging issues and trends to deliver clear, evidence-based advice to senior officers on policy issues, interpretation and development of legislation
- Operate with initiative and proactively brief managers and senior officers to ensure early visibility of issues, risks, progress and solutions.
- Tailor communication with clear and succinct messaging and prepare high quality briefs, reports, submissions, drafting instructions and correspondence within required timeframes tailored for Ministers, senior executives and industry stakeholders.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with team members, peers and senior officers within the Queensland Public Sector, and with relevant external organisations and represent Planning Policy at internal and external forums.
Applications will remain current for 12 months.
