Careers/Open role ContractMelbourne (on-site at client sites) $1,000–1,400/day Process Discovery Consultant Melbourne-based BA/consultant who maps how mid-market businesses actually work — the foundation every AI and CIO engagement is built on.
About The Role Most mid-market firms can't tell you what they actually do. They can tell you what's supposed to happen — there's usually a SharePoint folder full of process docs from a 2021 consulting engagement — but ask the operations team how a new property listing actually moves from "we won the listing" to "first rent paid", and you'll get five different answers. Your job is to build the truthful version.
Sit with the people doing the work, watch them do it, write down what's actually happening, and produce process catalogues + system maps that the AI strategy work can be grounded in. A Typical Engagement Looks Like 2–4 weeks of in office discovery at a client — interviewing operations staff, observing workflows, mapping system boundaries
Process catalogues — building the inventory of every recurring workflow with system mappings, complexity ratings, owners, pain points
End-to-end mapping of a chosen worked example — current state vs target state, in Mermaid diagrams
Pattern extraction — turning what you observed into recommendations the engineering team can build against You're not the strategist (that's Tom). You're not the engineer (that's the AI Implementation team). You're the person who makes sure neither of them is solving the wrong problem.
What we're looking for 5+ years as a business analyst, management consultant, operations consultant, or in-house operations leader at a mid-market firm
Genuinely curious about how work actually gets done — comfortable saying "show me the form you actually fill in" instead of accepting the diagram
Strong written communication — you'll produce documents people read in 6 months and still understand
Comfortable with Mermaid, basic process notation, and markdown-first documentation
Familiar with at least 2 of: HubSpot, Monday.com, Salesforce, Asana, Jira, ServiceNow, Property Tree, Xero, MYOB, or similar AU mid-market tooling
Melbourne-based with right to work in Australia. Most days will be in client offices around the CBD and inner suburbs.
Bonus: prior exposure to AI/LLM-powered workflow design — but not required How we work Client-first — you'll structure most weeks around the client's calendar
Truth over theatre — read the forms paradox for the operating principle
Markdown-first internally; Mermaid diagrams in markdown; deliverables are git-tracked
Honest assessments — if a process doesn't need automating, you say so What we offer Day rate at the upper end of the AU consultant band
Genuinely interesting client mix — financial services, real estate, professional services, mid-market manufacturing
Direct line to Tom — no PowerPoint hierarchies
Work that has real consequences (your maps drive the engineering team's roadmap)
Pipeline currently means we can offer 2–3 days/week ongoing for the right person How to apply Apply Through This Page.
