Your Role

The Principal Solution Engineer provides senior technical leadership for an assigned domain, platform,product area or strategic capability.

The role is accountable for shaping and assuring the technicalsolution approach required to deliver secure, scalable, reliable and supportable products and servicesthat create measurable value for members, partners and Flybuys.

Some key responsibilities include:

- Own engineering-led solution design, build, secure operation andcontinuous improvement for systems within the assigned domain.
- Ensure technical decisions support measurable member, partner,operational and Flybuys outcomes.
- Work as the senior technical partner to Product Management, ProductDesign and the Squad Lead to shape what the team works on and why.
- Bring technical, platform, operational and delivery insight intoopportunity framing, customer and business problem definition,assumption testing and solution option development.
- Challenge Productand Design constructively to ensure opportunities balance member,partner and Flybuys value with usability, feasibility, viability, risk, costand pace before significant investment
- Lead solution design and overall technical direction for the squad,ensuring solutions are practical, reusable, scalable and secure withinagreed architecture guardrails.
- Partner with Architecture, Security andPlatform on complex, novel, high-risk, cross-domain or enterprise impacting decisions, and provide clear technical advice to Product,Design and the Squad Lead.
- Provide technical input into delivery planning, estimation, sequencingand tracking.




- Manage technical dependencies across squads, resolvetechnical blockers, support release activities, maintain technical deliveryvisibility and communicate risks, trade-offs and readiness tostakeholder
- Ensure systems are reliable, observable, secure, testable, resilient andsupportable in production.
- Embed operational readiness, monitoring,incident learning, performance management and clear supportexpectations before launch
- Make technical debt, reliability risks, cost, security, dependencies andoperational constraints visible in product planning. Influence Product tosequence remediation and enablement work appropriately, with clearoptions and recommendations
- Stay at the forefront of AI-assisted engineering, automation anddeveloper productivity practices.
- Help the team build practical AIcapability, identify current ways to deliver member, partner and Flybuysvalue with AI, and apply approved tools to improve speed, quality, testcoverage, documentation, prototyping, knowledge capture andoperational efficiency while maintaining security, privacy andgovernance controls
- Lead technical and leadership development within the team, withspecific accountability for Lead Engineer direct reports.
- Coach anddevelop Lead Engineers as supporting technical leaders who remaincloser to day-to-day execution, while also developing SoftwareEngineers and Quality Engineers where assigned.
- Lift engineering andQuality Engineering capability through standards, patterns, reviews,reusable examples, communities of practice and constructive feedback

Your Experience

- Significant software engineering experience designing, building andoperating production systems in complex digital, product-led orplatform environments.
- Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end engineering solutionsfrom discovery and design through build, release, run andoptimisation.
- Experience partnering with Product Managers and Designers to shapesolution options, validate feasibility and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Experience managing technical dependencies, delivery risks, releasereadiness and production readiness across squads or domains.
- Experience improving reliability, observability,



technical debt, incidentlearning, test coverage and secure engineering practices.
- Experience coaching and developing Lead Engineers or seniortechnical contributors; formal people leadership experience isdesirable where direct reports are assigned.
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience inSoftware Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, Engineering ora related field is desirable
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering acrossdiscovery, design, build, test, release, run and continuousimprovement.
- Knowledge of cloud-native engineering, APIs, distributed systems,CI/CD, automated testing, observability and operational tooling.
- Understanding of architecture principles, engineering guardrails,platform leverage, secure-by-design practices and productionresilience.
- Working knowledge of product operating models, product discoveryand the Product, Design and Engineering trio model.
- Understanding of privacy, security, compliance, risk, accessibility andoperational readiness considerations relevant to digital products.
- Understanding of AI-assisted engineering, automation, developerproductivity tooling and responsible governance controls
- Outcome-led and accountable for value, not just technical output.
- Systems-oriented, seeking root causes across product, process,policy, platform, data and operational drivers.
- Quality and risk disciplined, embedding security, reliability andsupportability early rather than treating them as downstream checks.
- Curious and proactive in applying AI and automation responsibly, andin helping the team build AI capability to improve engineeringeffectiveness and value delivery.
