Job Description

As the Leading Hand, you will work closely with management, tradespeople, apprentices and trade assistants to help keep jobs moving efficiently, safely and to a high standard.

This is not a desk-based supervisory role. You will be actively involved in the work while also supporting the team with daily coordination, task allocation, quality checks and general job flow.

Your role will include:

- Leading and supporting boilermakers, apprentices and trade assistants
- Allocating tasks and assisting with daily job planning
- Keeping workshop and site-based jobs progressing efficiently
- Reading and interpreting drawings, sketches and job instructions
- Checking measurements, materials and fabrication requirements
- Assisting with fabrication, welding, repairs and modifications
- Supporting breakdown and repair works on customer sites
- Ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and to client expectations
- Monitoring workmanship and maintaining quality control




- Assisting with material preparation and job set-up
- Maintaining secure work practices across workshop and site activities
- Supporting apprentices and junior workers with practical guidance
- Ensuring workshop housekeeping, tools and equipment are maintained
- Communicating with management regarding job progress, issues and priorities
- Attending quarry, civil, mining and industrial sites as required

About the Candidate

- Trade qualification (Boilermaker/Fabricator/Welder)
- Strong fabrication and repair experience
- Ability to supervise and guide workshop staff
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Current driver's licence

Desirable

- Forklift, dogging/rigging, EWP, WAH, confined space
- Quarry or mine-site experience
- Plant and equipment repair experience
