Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Integration Specialist to join the ICT department.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Integration Specialist plays a critical role within the ICT Integration team, supporting both project-based integration initiatives and ongoing business-as-usual (BAU) operational activities. The role is essential in ensuring the stability, reliability, and continuity of system integrations across the organisation, including participation in the after-hours integration on-call support roster.

The Integration Specialist is responsible for collaborating with counterparts across Health Technology Solutions (HTS), internal stakeholders, and third-party vendors to deliver effective, efficient, and secure system integrations. This includes the design, implementation, and support of integration solutions using HL7 messaging, data extracts, File Transfer Protocols (FTP), and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards.

This role is responsible for analysing, designing, and participating in data integration activities across Northern Health healthcare systems. The position is primarily responsible for the development, management, and ongoing support of integration solutions between source and destination systems. A strong understanding of source and target system architecture, data flows, and compliance considerations is critical to ensure integration solutions meet organizational, technical, and regulatory requirements.



The role also requires the creation and maintenance of high-quality technical documentation throughout the interface design, development, testing, implementation, and support lifecycle.

This position provides an excellent prospect for a technically skilled professional with a strong passion for problem-solving and troubleshooting, working collaboratively within a specialized team responsible for implementing, upgrading, and optimizing healthcare systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in HL7 integrations and a strong understanding of clinical systems operating within an acute hospital environment from both business and technical perspectives. Proven project management capability is also required to coordinate ICT assignments, deliver outcomes within agreed timelines, and proactively communicate issues, risks, and concerns that may impact project delivery to relevant stakeholders. Reporting to the ICT Integration Manager, who reports to the CIO, this role works closely with system owners, business users, and key stakeholders to ensure all integration activities are appropriately understood, planned, communicated, and delivered successfully.

This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with ICT team members, business owners of clinical applications, EMR application teams, Health Technology Solutions (HTS), and third-party vendors managing in-scope application systems. Through effective collaboration, the Integration Specialist will deliver integration solutions that meet end-user requirements, support agreed service levels, and ensure efficient system operations and ongoing support.

To be successful in this role you will have:





- Demonstrated knowledge of and practical experience with HL7 messaging standards and healthcare interoperability frameworks.
- Proven experience working with integration engine technologies, including Rhapsody Integration Engine.
- Experience in the design, development, implementation, and support of both HL7 and non-HL7 interfaces.
- Strong knowledge of and experience working with Patient Administration Systems (PAS) and other common healthcare application platforms.
- Demonstrated experience working with a range of healthcare and clinical applications within complex operational environments.
- Experience participating in or supporting project implementations, system deployments, and technology upgrades.
- Completion of Rhapsody Associate and/or Professional Certification is highly desirable.
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
