The Role

This is a senior infrastructure engineering opportunity within a large and complex enterprise technology environment. Working as the technical subject matter expert across enterprise storage, backup, virtualisation and data centre infrastructure, you will lead the design, implementation and ongoing optimisation of highly available, scalable infrastructure platforms that support both business-critical services and world-leading research.

You'll work closely with architects, infrastructure engineers, vendors and operational teams to deliver secure, resilient infrastructure while driving automation, engineering best practice and continual service improvement across the technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, implement and maintain enterprise storage platforms, including SAN, NAS and object storage, ensuring high availability, resilience and performance.
- Lead the deployment, optimisation and operational management of enterprise backup and recovery platforms, ensuring robust data protection, recovery capability and business continuity.
- Engineer and support large-scale VMware virtualisation environments, delivering reliable, scalable infrastructure aligned to enterprise architecture standards.
- Manage data centre infrastructure components, including storage, compute, networking and capacity planning, supporting ongoing operational excellence.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible or similar), CI/CD pipelines and version control practices to improve automation,



consistency and deployment efficiency.
- Collaborate with architects, technical teams and vendors to design secure infrastructure solutions, support operational readiness and ensure alignment with security, governance and compliance standards.

Skills & Experience Required

- Extensive experience designing and supporting enterprise infrastructure across storage, virtualisation and backup technologies within large, complex environments.
- Strong expertise with enterprise storage platforms (SAN, NAS and object storage) together with backup technologies such as Dell EMC Data Domain, Commvault, Veeam or equivalent enterprise solutions.
- Advanced VMware experience across technologies including vSphere, NSX and associated virtual infrastructure platforms.
- Experience managing data centre infrastructure, including compute, networking, hardware installation, capacity planning and operational support.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation and DevOps practices using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Git and CI/CD pipelines, together with robust Linux administration skills.
