The Opportunity
We're seeking an environmental Project Scientist to become a key technical leader within our growing Environmental team.
This role offers a unique blend of hazardous materials leadership and environmental project management. You will take ownership of Alliance's hazardous materials service offering, leading proposals, field investigations, reporting and client engagement while mentoring and developing junior team members in this discipline.
Beyond hazardous materials, you will also manage medium to large-scale infrastructure, contaminated land and environmental investigation projects, overseeing project delivery from proposal through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead Alliance's hazardous materials service line, including proposal preparation, field investigations, reporting and client management.
- Develop and mentor junior environmental scientists in hazardous materials fieldwork, reporting and project delivery.
- Drive business development opportunities associated with hazardous materials and environmental investigations.
- Manage environmental projects end-to-end – planning, scheduling, budgeting and resourcing to meet client and regulatory requirements.
- Develop fee proposals and tender submissions, providing clients with clear advice on scope and environmental considerations.
- Lead and participate in fieldwork including soil sampling,
site assessments and environmental monitoring, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
- Prepare comprehensive environmental reports, including, preliminary and detailed site investigations, remediation action plans, site remediation and validation reports, hazardous building materials reports and material classifications, that are clear, accurate and compliant.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular on-site communication and technical advice.
- Coordinate project resourcing to avoid on-site clashes and keep workloads balanced across the team.
About You
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
- Approximately 5–7 years' experience in environmental consulting, with proven experience managing medium to large-scale environmental projects, including project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resourcing and client management.
- Certified Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA), or experience in this area with readiness and willingness to complete the certificate on commencement.
- Ability to independently scope, plan and deliver hazardous materials projects from proposal through to completion.
- Proven experience preparing hazardous materials reports for infrastructure, industrial, commercial and government projects.
- Experience with material and waste classifications.
- Strong experience undertaking and managing environmental investigations, including Preliminary Site Investigations (PSI), Detailed Site Investigations (DSI), contamination assessments and remediation projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental investigations associated with major infrastructure, transport, utilities or development projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining technical excellence and commercial performance.
- Sound knowledge of environmental regulations,
permitting processes and industry best practice.
- Robust commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to take ownership.
- Tech-savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems.
- Current Construction White Card.
- Current driver's licence.
Preferred Experience (Highly Regarded)
- Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA).
- Experience delivering hazardous materials services on major infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing subcontractors and multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Existing client relationships within infrastructure, utilities, government or construction sectors.
- Experience mentoring junior staff and contributing to team capability development.
