We ‘re currently recruiting for a Protection Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering major electricity infrastructure projects across Australia. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of transmission, distribution and renewable energy projects, providing protection and control solutions for high-voltage networks.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will be responsible for developing protection schemes from concept through to detailed design, supporting project delivery while ensuring compliance with Australian standards and network authority requirements.

Responsibilities

- Develop protection and control designs for HV transmission and distribution substations.
- Perform protection relay setting calculations and coordination studies.
- Undertake fault level, short circuit and protection system analysis.
- Prepare protection philosophies, settings reports and technical documentation.
- Design secondary systems including AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, interlocking and control circuits.
- Review vendor documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate with primary, civil and commissioning teams throughout project delivery.
- Interface with network service providers,



clients and equipment manufacturers.
- Provide technical support during testing, commissioning and energisation activities where required.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, utility requirements and client specifications.
- Support project planning, technical reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience

- Experience in protection engineering within the electricity transmission, distribution or renewable energy sectors.
- Robust understanding of HV protection principles and protection relay applications.
- Experience completing protection settings, coordination studies and fault analysis.
- Knowledge of transmission and distribution substation secondary systems.
- Experience using protection study software such as ETAP, PowerFactory, or equivalent is advantageous.
- Familiarity with protection relays from manufacturers such as SEL, Siemens, GE, ABB/Hitachi Energy or Schneider Electric.
- Experience working with Australian utility standards and network service provider requirements is highly regarded.

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
