Job Title: Psychology Internship Student (5+1 Program) Practice: Kultivate Supervisor: Registered Disabled Psychologist (Disability and Neurodivergent-affirming) About Kultivate Kultivate is a disability-led multidisciplinary health practice committed to delivering care through a social model of disability. We are creating an Australian first disability-led multidisciplinary team, and are committed to using co-design principles in our work. We prioritize equity, community, and mindfulness, providing specialised support to disabled, neurodivergent, and chronically ill adults.

We are an inclusive, values-driven organisation that actively works to reduce stigma and provide affirming, high-quality support to our community. We are based in Melbourne and provide support to clients Australia-wide, primarily through telehealth.

The Chance

We are seeking a student currently enrolled in the 5+1 psychology internship pathway to join our practice for a clinical internship. This role offers the unique opportunity to learn from a disabled psychologist who is focussed on supporting clients with lived experience of disability, chronic illness, and neurodivergence. At Kultivate, we do not view disability as something to be "fixed." Instead, we focus on understanding client context, advocating for their needs, and facilitating a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and grounded in lived experience.

Key Responsibilities Supervised Clinical Work: Provide client support through individual and group sessions with adults navigating diverse disability experiences, neurodivergence, and chronic health conditions, under the direct supervision of your supervisor.

Social Model Practice: Integrate the social model of disability into your work, focusing on identifying environmental and systemic barriers to client wellbeing rather than adhering to a strictly medicalised framework.

Community Engagement: Contribute to our community-building initiatives, such as the Kultivate Social Club, which aims to foster connection and skills development among our clients.

Engage in Our Disability-Led Multidisciplinary Approach: be an active participant in our multidisciplinary team and build your skills to support clients using a multidisciplinary, co-design framework. This will include team meetings, case presentations and discussions.

Administrative & Clinical Standards: Maintain accurate, high-quality case notes and client records, ensuring compliance with AHPRA standards and the Psychology Board’s code of conduct.

Continuous Learning: Engage in self-directed learning and reflective practice. You will be encouraged to explore your own professional identity within an environment that promotes openness and growth.

Practice Engagement: Engage in practice-wide collaboration and learning, including team meetings and internal professional development. Contribute to the practice’s values and sustainability through stakeholder and community engagement. This can include for example meetings with external providers and creating and facilitating professional development content.

What We Look For Enrollment: You are currently completing your 5th year or are in the +1 year of the 5+1 psychology internship pathway.

Values Alignment: You have a genuine commitment to social justice and disability rights. You understand and are committed to practice from a neurodivergence and disability affirming perspective.

Growth Mindset: You are eager to reflect on your practice, receive feedback, and learn how to navigate the complexities of the current mental health system.

Communication: You communicate clearly, respectfully, and with empathy—both with clients and within our team

Lived Experience:

You identify as a disabled person or a person with lived experience of disability.

Why Join

Kultivate?

Lived Experience Supervision: You will be mentored by a disabled psychologist who understands the intersection of professional practice and lived disability experience.

Purpose-Led Environment: We aren't just a clinical practice; we are a community. You will be part of a team that is doing things differently. We deeply care about our mission, sustainability and practicing using an anti-oppression approach.

Practical Development: You will gain experience in a practice that balances clinical excellence with administrative efficiency, including exposure to modern, AI-integrated workflows.

A place to Grow: our practice is growing and we are looking for someone who wants to grow with us. This means opportunities to help shape the future of disability-led healthcare.

The Logistics Employment type: Casual contract. Further opportunities will be available for the right candidate after the internship.

Compensation: This is a paid internship at a casual rate, aligned with the relevant award. Specific remuneration rate will be determined after interviews.

Location: Work from home, with potential for future hybrid opportunities.

How to Apply Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter (no more than one page) detailing why you want to work with us. If this is not accessible to you or you need any adjustments to the application or interview process, please contact us on [email protected] or (03) 9003 9665. Our Commitment to Inclusion As a disability-led practice, we will only consider applications from disabled candidates.

We define disability broadly and use the social model of disability. This means that if you are disabled, neurodivergent or Deaf, we encourage you to apply. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds including First Nations peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and the LGBTIQA+ community.
