: Publicist & Marketing Executive
Position Summary
We are seeking a creative, proactive, and highly organised Publicist & Marketing Executive to join our quick-growing hybrid publishing company. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about books, storytelling, media, and digital marketing. You'll work closely with authors and the publishing team to develop and execute publicity and marketing campaigns that maximise book sales, media coverage, and author visibility.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Publicity
- Develop and implement tailored publicity campaigns for book launches and author brands.
- Pitch authors and books to journalists, producers, podcasters, reviewers, bloggers, and influencers.
- Write compelling media releases, media kits, author biographies, and press materials.
- Secure media interviews, reviews, speaking opportunities, and feature articles.
- Build and maintain relationships with media contacts across print, radio, television, online publications, and podcasts.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare campaign reports for authors and management.
- Coordinate publicity schedules, interview logistics, and media follow-up.
Marketing
- Plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
- Manage social media campaigns for both the company and selected authors.
- Create engaging marketing content including newsletters, blog posts, social media copy, and promotional materials.
- Coordinate book launch campaigns, events, webinars, and promotional activities.
- Develop marketing assets in collaboration with designers and external contractors.
- Assist with paid advertising campaigns across Meta, Google, Amazon, and other platforms.
- Track campaign performance using analytics and recommend improvements.
- Support us in growing the Hembury Books Podcast
Author Relations
- Act as a key point of contact for authors during publicity and marketing campaigns.
- Guide authors on media opportunities, personal branding, and promotional strategies.
- Manage expectations and provide regular campaign updates.
- Support authors in preparing for interviews, speaking engagements, and public appearances.
Partnerships & Business Development
- Build relationships with literary festivals, bookstores, libraries, industry organisations, and event partners.
- Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and cross-promotions.
- Assist with award submissions and industry recognition opportunities.
Administration
- Maintain media databases and marketing calendars.
- Coordinate campaign timelines to ensure deadlines are met.
- Prepare reports measuring campaign outcomes and return on investment.
- Maintain organised records of publicity contacts, marketing assets, and campaign materials.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- 3 years' experience in publicity, marketing, communications, publishing, media, or a related field.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent copywriting and editing abilities.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Experience pitching to media and securing coverage.
- Knowledge of social media marketing and content creation.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- High level of initiative with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence working directly with authors and stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience in publishing, bookselling, journalism, or the creative industries.
- Existing media contacts and journalist relationships.
- Experience with email marketing platforms (such as Mailchimp or Klaviyo).
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.
- Experience managing Meta and Google advertising campaigns.
- Understanding of SEO and content marketing.
- Experience using CRM or project management software.
