The Radiochemical Processing Technician is responsible for supporting the safe and compliant processing, purification and handling of therapeutic radioisotopes, including thorium-228 (Th-228), actinium-227 (Ac-227) and radium-226 (Ra-226), to enable the manufacture of clinical and research radiopharmaceuticals. Working within a highly regulated laboratory and production environment, the role performs radiochemical processing activities, isotope purification, radioactive material handling and routine production operations in accordance with approved procedures, radiation safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. The Technician plays an important role in ensuring production activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards, while maintaining accurate documentation, supporting continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to the ongoing operation of AdvanCell's radiochemical processing facilities.
Responsibilities Perform radiochemical processing operations including dissolution, separation, purification, recovery and preparation of radioisotopes (including Th-228, Ac-227 and Ra-226) to support clinical, commercial and research manufacturing activities
Operate telemanipulators, hot cells, shielded processing equipment and other specialised radiochemical processing systems safely and efficiently
Perform radiochemical purification techniques including ion exchange, extraction chromatography, precipitation, solvent extraction and other separation methods in accordance with approved procedures
Support investigations into process deviations, unexpected results, equipment issues and non-conformances by gathering data,
documenting observations and assisting with root cause analysis
Identify opportunities to improve radiochemical processing methods, equipment utilisation, workflow efficiency and production reliability, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Assist with the commissioning, qualification, calibration and routine operation of new equipment and systems
Monitor consumables, materials and critical inventory levels, raising purchase requests with the supply chain management team to coordinating replenishment to maintain uninterrupted operations
Work closely with Radiation Safety, Manufacturing, Engineering and Technical Operations teams to support compliant and efficient activities
Support the implementation and maintenance of AdvanCell's Quality Management System (QMS), including adherence to document management processes
Ensure compliance with all radiation protection requirements, licence conditions, environmental health and safety (EHS) standards, radioactive waste management procedures and applicable regulatory requirements
Handle, package, label, store and transport radioactive materials in accordance with site procedures and regulatory requirements
Assist with radiation surveys, contamination monitoring, personnel monitoring and routine housekeeping activities to maintain a safe radiological working environment
Participate in technology transfer, process validation, process characterisation and manufacturing readiness activities as new isotope production processes are introduced
Support manufacturing scheduling by completing production activities within agreed timelines while maintaining safety, quality and documentation standards
Maintain laboratories and production suites in a clean, organised and inspection-ready state at all times Experience, Education & Qualifications Bachelor's degree (BSc/BS) in Chemistry, Radiochemistry or another relevant scientific discipline
Practical laboratory experience in chemistry, radiochemistry, analytical chemistry or a related scientific field
Demonstrated ability to safely handle chemicals and work in accordance with laboratory safety, environmental, health and safety (EHS), and radiation safety procedures
Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to accurately follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical instructions and complete laboratory documentation
Strong manual dexterity and the ability to perform precise laboratory techniques using specialised equipment
Well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project and production deadlines
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify unexpected results, troubleshoot routine technical issues and escalate more complex problems appropriately A proactive, reliable and cooperative team player who demonstrates initiative, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement
