Mechanical Surveillance Officer - (18-24 month contract)

The Opportunity

JPMC is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Surveillance Officer to support the delivery of a major infrastructure project.

This site-based position will provide independent oversight of mechanical installation and testing activities, helping ensure works are completed safely and in accordance with the project’s approved drawings, specifications, procedures and quality requirements.

Required Experience

You will bring at least 20 years of relevant mechanical experience, including substantial exposure to complex infrastructure or tunnel environments.

Experience should include several of the following areas:

- Tunnel ventilation systems, including axial fans, jet fans, dampers and associated sensors.
- Fire protection infrastructure, including deluge systems, hydrants, emergency cabinets, pumps, storage tanks, foam suppression and pipework.
- Tunnel and building drainage systems, including sumps, pumps and piping.
- Building services such as HVAC, hydraulics and fire systems.
- Associated mechanical and finishing elements, including fire sealing and signage.
- Inspection, testing and commissioning of mechanical subsystems.

Key Responsibilities





- Undertake regular site inspections to assess mechanical works against approved project documentation and quality requirements.
- Attend nominated Hold Points and Witness Points and confirm that the required inspections and approvals have been completed.
- Review the release of Hold Points and Witness Points by the relevant approving authority.
- Prepare clear and detailed surveillance reports using the project’s digital inspection platform.
- Complete surveillance activities in accordance with the project’s risk-based inspection targets.
- Promptly raise any safety, quality or environmental concerns with the appropriate site representative and document the matter in the relevant report.
- Recognise and report examples of strong safety, quality and environmental performance.
- Work constructively with project engineers, construction personnel and the contractor’s delivery team.
- Participate in contractor pre-starts, risk reviews, coordination meetings and other relevant project forums.
- Coach and support less experienced Surveillance Officers and engineers.
- Share observations, lessons learned and recurring issues with the wider project team.
- Contribute to a collaborative culture focused on compliance, continuous improvement and successful project delivery.
