About the role
Blackwater Mine operates the largest fleet of draglines on a single site in Australia, with seven draglines and two electric shovels. The Senior Reliability Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical) is based in Blackwater and reports to the Superintendent Reliability and Strategy.
This role is accountable for the reliability performance, asset strategy and continuous improvement of our electric draglines and shovels. The successful candidate will drive sustainable improvements in fleet reliability, increase Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), optimise maintenance strategies and deliver asset performance improvements across the operation.
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic reliability professional who is passionate about improving asset performance and delivering world-class reliability outcomes across one of the most exciting electric rope machine fleets in the mining industry.
What you will bring:
- Extensive experience with draglines and shovels, ideally supported by a reliability engineering background,
- Ability to develop, review, and optimise maintenance and asset strategies to improve fleet reliability, availability and performance,
- Proven capability to identify, evaluate, and implement industry and technological advancements that drive reliability engineering and continuous improvement initiatives,
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, maintenance optimisation, shutdown planning, budgeting, and cost-effective reliability improvement programs,
- Demonstrated expertise in improving MTBF, availability, First Failure After Service (FFAS), and operational readiness through defect elimination, trend analysis, and proactive reliability practices,
- Strong facilitation and leadership skills in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), failure investigations,
and the implementation of sustainable corrective actions,
- Excellent technical reporting, documentation, and asset management capabilities,
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with maintenance and operational teams to improve fleet performance and support business objectives, and
- Sound understanding of risk management, safety systems, and Queensland coal mining legislation.
Key Qualifications:
- Engineering degree or diploma, or a robust trade background, combined with a minimum of five years' experience in reliability, asset management, or maintenance engineering within a mining or heavy industry environment.
- Experience working with electric draglines, electric shovels, or other large-scale field equipment, supported by strong knowledge of heavy mining equipment and maintenance practices.
