About the Business

Metro Petroleum (Lucknow) is an established service station and convenience retail business located in Lucknow, New South Wales. The business provides fuel, convenience products and related retail services to the local community and travelling public.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to organise and control the operations of the retail trading establishment and lead the day-to-day performance of the service station and convenience store.

About the Role

The Retail Manager will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of the business, including product range and pricing, stock control, purchasing, marketing, staff management, customer service, budgeting, financial records and regulatory compliance.

Plan, organise and control the daily operations of the service station and convenience store.

Determine the product mix, stock levels, pricing, merchandising arrangements and customer service standards.

Formulate and implement purchasing, marketing and promotional policies and strategies.

Promote and advertise the establishment’s goods and services to increase sales and customer retention.

Sell goods and services to customers, provide product information and ensure high standards of customer service.

Maintain accurate records of stock levels, sales, cash movements and financial transactions.





Prepare and manage operational budgets, monitor costs, margins and sales performance, and prepare performance reports and forecasts.

Manage supplier relationships and negotiate pricing, delivery and supply arrangements.

Maintain appropriate inventory levels, place stock orders, manage stock rotation and conduct regular stocktakes.

Recruit, roster, train, supervise and evaluate retail employees, and monitor staff performance.

Establish and implement workplace procedures, service standards, cash-handling controls and loss-prevention measures.

Operate and oversee point-of-sale systems, daily reconciliations and banking procedures.

Respond to customer enquiries and resolve complaints professionally.

Ensure retail displays, equipment, facilities and the premises are maintained to a high standard.

Ensure compliance with work health and safety, fuel-site safety, environmental, food-safety and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, sales performance and business profitability.

Qualifications and Experience

An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Retail Management, Business Management or a related field; or at least three years of relevant retail management experience as a substitute for the formal qualification.





At least one year of relevant full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience, in a retail management or closely related supervisory role.

Demonstrated experience managing staff, rosters, stock, suppliers, financial controls and customer service.

Experience in a service station, convenience store, supermarket or other high-volume retail environment will be highly regarded.

Skills and Attributes

Strong leadership, staff-management and performance-management skills.

Sound knowledge of inventory control, purchasing, pricing and merchandising.

Experience in budgeting, sales analysis, cost control and financial reporting.

Competency in point-of-sale and inventory-management systems.

Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

A professional approach to customer service and complaint resolution.

Knowledge of workplace health and safety and retail compliance requirements.

Ability to work independently and manage competing operational priorities.

Availability to work across a flexible roster, including weekends and public holidays when required.
