Your new company: Completely unique! A mix of client-side project management, development and advisory. $180k - $220k+ super-Big projects, less hours and less stress. One of my favourite clients due to the uniqueness of the role. They provide construction professionals with something entirely different. These guys are an extremely experienced and well-networked property development and strategic advisory firm. National clients, projects all over Australia - across all sectors (except Infrastructure) - Health, Commercial, Retail, Education.
A team of 10 means you will have unique exposure to Directors and the opportunity to learn from the best. Everyone here is ex Tier 1 or 2 VIC builders and they love it (I have placed most of them). Real team environment, good guys, good office buzz. Work on exciting projects, but do less hours! They offer a different service - a role that removes you from those onsite frustrations with the builder and gives you the exposure to clients from the outset of projects to change the way they are delivered. Providing a strategic service upfront which makes projects more cost-effective and better outcomes overall.
PM is not their core business, rather their core business is front end development/project strategy and replanning and PM is an additional service they provide. Entirely different to those standard PM delivery firms/roles out there. Essentially they provide full life-cycle development services.
Your new role: Working closely with the client,
your strong background with major Tier 1 or 2 builder you will provide advisory services across full project life cycles but most importantly upfront. With your background across projects such as residential, commercial, health, industrial, education $50m+, you will work with clients from the outset, have an influence on how they are planned, set up and then delivered. Managing consultants, stakeholders, close client interaction, you will no longer be involved in those onsite frustrations whilst working for a builder. All the senior PM's I have placed here are ex Tier 1 builders.
What you'll need to succeed
- A degree in a construction related field, engineering, QS, Construction Management
- 8 - 12 years working with Tier 1 or 2 builders here in Melbourne (not volume residential)
- Minimum of 3 years with one builder - longevity!
- You must be working directly at a builder currently, not previously.
- Held a project management / PE type role with a builder
- Worked on similar type projects and values $30m+
- Excellent communication skills
What you'll get in return
An prospect to move into the best side of construction, the advisory space. Feedback from the previous Tier 1 candidates I have placed is that the role is genuinely completely different. They have loved using their construction experience to shape how projects are delivered rather than the day to delivery issues. Work-life balance is massive. No longer dealing with subbies, those early morning, late night calls, all those delivery headaches. Your role is more structured and manageable therefore more enjoyable.
Location: Eastern suburbs' office location.
