Staff Software Engineer, Engine & Tools at Riot Games.

About the role In this exciting position, you will be at the forefront of developing AI and machine learning tools for a new research and development initiative. Your primary responsibility will be to spearhead the design and execution of systems that enhance developer productivity. You will work closely with various teams to influence the future direction of the product, ensuring that innovative solutions are effectively integrated into the development process.

What you'll do

- Collaborate with designers, artists, and fellow engineers to pinpoint and create AI-enhanced workflow optimizations.
- Establish a comprehensive long-term strategy for AI-driven developer tools and their underlying infrastructure.
- Design and implement core components of the game tool ecosystem that will serve as the foundation for future development.
- Take the lead in integrating AI and machine learning systems to solve challenges faced by both developers and players.
- Conduct research on industry advancements to identify and apply effective AI/ML solutions to ongoing development obstacles.
- Work alongside central teams to ensure that AI solutions are effectively disseminated throughout the wider Riot Games portfolio.
- Set and uphold high standards for the architecture and implementation of tools to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Provide mentorship to engineers at various experience levels, offering technical guidance to foster their professional growth.
- Develop comprehensive documentation and training resources to aid in the adoption of new workflows and tools.

Requirements

- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven history of delivering products at scale.
- At least 3 years of experience specifically in developing tools for game applications, with strong proficiency in C++.
- Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine,



along with an understanding of emerging tools in the game development landscape.
- Demonstrated success in deploying AI and machine learning systems in real-world production settings.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical ideas to a variety of audiences and effectively influence stakeholders.

Nice to have

- Specialized knowledge in areas such as reinforcement learning, imitation learning, large language models (LLMs), AI planning, multi-agent systems, or decision-making under uncertainty.
- Familiarity with machine learning and data science frameworks, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, or pandas.
- Understanding of AAA game development tools and the integration of client-backend systems.
- Experience in creating AI/ML content tools for software like Maya or Blender.
- A background in mentoring technical leaders and nurturing an engineering culture within distributed teams.
