Permanent Part-Time | Flexible Working Arrangements | Potential to Progress to Full-Time
Ahura Lawyers is seeking an experienced, commercially minded lawyer with strong residential and commercial conveyancing experience to join our growing boutique legal practice on a permanent part-time basis.
Based in Doncaster, Victoria, Ahura Lawyers provides strategic, practical and results-focused legal services to individuals, professionals, property investors, business owners, companies and family enterprises.
This role is particularly suited to a capable lawyer who is confident managing conveyancing transactions independently, has practical experience using PEXA, and values professional autonomy, high-quality legal work and direct client engagement within a modern and supportive legal practice.
THE ROLE
The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Lawyer and manage a varied portfolio of residential and commercial property, conveyancing, business and commercial law matters.
A substantial component of the position will involve managing conveyancing files from initial instructions through to electronic settlement, including the preparation and review of contractual documents, client advice, due diligence, coordination with relevant stakeholders and completion of settlements through PEXA.
The role is expected to involve approximately two to three days per week. Working days, hours and arrangements may be negotiated having regard to the successful candidate’s experience and availability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Property and Conveyancing
- Managing residential and commercial conveyancing matters from initial instructions through to settlement
- Acting for purchasers and vendors in the acquisition and sale of residential, commercial and investment properties
- Conducting electronic conveyancing transactions and settlements through PEXA
- Establishing, maintaining and completing PEXA workspaces accurately and within applicable settlement timeframes
- Reviewing and advising on contracts of sale, vendor statements and related property documentation
- Preparing contracts of sale, vendor statements and associated conveyancing documents
- Conducting property searches, investigations and due diligence
- Advising clients on contractual obligations, settlement requirements,
special conditions and transactional risks
- Managing settlement adjustments, finance-related requirements and pre-settlement obligations
- Liaising with clients, real estate agents, conveyancers, mortgage brokers, financiers, banks and other legal practitioners
- Ensuring conveyancing files are managed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with professional, regulatory and trust accounting obligations
- Advising on commercial leases, lease renewals, assignments, transfers, variations and related property matters
Commercial and Business Law
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements
- Advising on business structures, commercial transactions and risk management
- Acting in the purchase and sale of businesses
- Preparing and reviewing shareholder, partnership and joint venture agreements
- Drafting terms and conditions, service agreements, contractor agreements and business policies
- Advising on intellectual property and trade mark matters
- Providing employment and workplace law advice
- Assisting with commercial disputes, contractual disputes and pre-litigation strategy
General Responsibilities
- Managing client matters independently and exercising sound professional judgement
- Maintaining clear, timely and professional communication with clients and other stakeholders
- Meeting critical contractual, settlement and procedural deadlines
- Maintaining accurate file records and complying with the firm’s professional and risk-management procedures
- Contributing to the continued development and growth of the firm’s conveyancing, property and commercial law practices
ABOUT YOU
- Hold a current Australian practising certificate
- Have at least three years’ post-admission experience, preferably in property, conveyancing, commercial or business law
- Have substantial practical experience in residential conveyancing
- Have experience in commercial property transactions or commercial conveyancing
- Be proficient in the use of PEXA and capable of independently managing electronic settlements
- Be experienced in reviewing and preparing contracts of sale, vendor statements and other conveyancing documentation
- Understand settlement procedures, property due diligence, contractual timeframes and transactional risk
- Be capable of managing conveyancing files independently from initial instructions through to settlement
- Demonstrate strong drafting, legal research, negotiation and analytical skills
- Have practical experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts
- Understand the commercial objectives and pressures faced by business owners, property investors and commercial clients
- Communicate confidently and professionally with clients, agents, financiers, conveyancers and legal practitioners
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, particularly in relation to settlement figures, contractual deadlines and PEXA transactions
- Be organised, dependable and capable of managing competing priorities
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical legal practice, client service and professional responsibility
- Be interested in developing long-term client relationships and contributing to the growth of a boutique legal practice
- Experience in commercial leasing, business transactions, property development, employment law, intellectual property or commercial litigation will also be highly regarded.
