About Creature Technology

Creature Technology designs and builds large-scale, life‑like animatronic creatures for theme parks, theatre, and live entertainment around the world. Our work blends engineering, fabrication, and artistry to create characters that move, perform, and hold up in demanding live environments.

A little about the role

We’re looking for a Mechanical Fabricator to join our Engineering Fabrication team in Port Melbourne. You’ll fabricate precision weldments that sit at the heart of the animatronic creatures we build. These are structures that need to move, perform, and stand up to the demands of live entertainment. You’ll work hands‑on from drawings through to finished assemblies, with quality and accuracy at the centre of the work.

Why this role matters

The weldments you build directly affect how a creature moves, how long it lasts, and how safely and reliably it performs. This is practical fabrication work with visible outcomes, done alongside engineers and other makers who care about doing things properly.

What you’ll bring

- A trade qualification (or equivalent) in welding or fabrication.
- Strong hands‑on experience in steel fabrication, ideally on large structures or machinery.
- Ability to complete a practical weld test during recruitment.
- Willingness to train toward and pass a 6GR weld qualification after commencing in the role.
- Confidence reading drawings and welding symbols and working to tight tolerances.
- A quality‑first, detail‑focused approach to fabrication and fit‑up.

Nice to have

- Experience working to recognised welding standards (AWS/ISO, AS1554, or similar).
- Experience designing and using jigs, fixtures, and weld mapping techniques.
- Dogging/Rigging, forklift, or EWP licences, or willingness to obtain if required.

What you’ll do

- Fabricate high‑precision weldments using tubular members, sheet and plate, and machined components.
- Weld using processes such as GMAW, GMAW‑S, and GTAW to meet required quality standards.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, including welding symbols and weld detail images.
- Build and use jigs and fixtures to minimise distortion and maintain fabrication accuracy.
- Follow documented welding procedures and complete weldment‑related quality records.
- Assemble mechanical components adjacent to fabrication work and support fit‑up as required.
- Check materials and components are correct and traceable before fabrication begins.
- Work closely with engineers, assemblers, and other fabricators to solve practical problems.
- Support inspection activities and respond to feedback to improve quality and repeatability.
- Contribute to final assembly work where needed, handling finished parts with care.

How we work together

We’re hands‑on and cooperative. You’ll work closely with engineers, assemblers, and other fabricators, supported to solve problems together. We value practical problem‑solving, curiosity, and clear communication, especially when the work is complex and precision matters.

Working arrangements

This is a full‑time, onsite role based in our Port Melbourne workshop.
