Primary objective

Assist with the development and implementation of best practice fire management planning across the Northern Territory aligned to the legislative framework of the Bushfires Management Act 2016, within the Planning Unit of the Bushfires NT.

Context statement

Bushfires NT (BFNT) provides fire management support to stakeholders including land holders and volunteer bushfire brigades across the Territory through the delivery of fire management planning, wildfire risk mitigation, training and an emergency response capability. As part of the Operations Branch,



the Risk Planning Unit has a strong focus on evidence-

based business improvement through the development of continuous improvement frameworks, policies and procedures.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Support the development and implementation of continuous improvement frameworks, policies and procedures for best

practice fire management planning including bushfire prevention, preparedness and response.
- Support the end-to-end management of data including Bushfires NT corporate geospatial information.
- Provide planning advice and services to Bushfires NT stakeholders including BFNT staff, volunteer brigades,

committees, government agencies, industry groups and landholders.
1. Undertake detailed research and analysis of current and emerging trends to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness

of fire management plans to support continual improvement.
1. Support the administration and management of the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS).
2. Actively contribute to Territory and national technical working groups and advisory committees.
3. Provide emergency management support to Bushfires NT through participation in incident management teams.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Degree in science,



environmental planning or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
2. Ability to provide advice and build collaborative relationships with a broad range of stakeholders on scientific and

technical matters associated with fire management.
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills in regards to analysing data and writing technical reports or guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team and in a cross culture workplace.
- Experience in the development and management of spatial data with contemporary systems.

1. Ability to initiate momentum towards team goals, seek advice, participate and support team objectives.
2. Demonstrated experience in managing projects including construction of project plans, meeting milestones within

timeframes and managing schedules to accommodate for competing priorities.

Desirable

1. Qualifications and experience in Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS) Level 2 Planner or Fire

Behaviour Analyst (FBAN).
1. Experience in bushfire prevention or preparedness planning.

Further information The position is located at Acacia Hills, 50 km from Darwin. The incumbent will require a Working with Children Card and a current criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position. During periods of heightened operational activity, the incumbent will be required to provide operational support across the Territory, including travel and work in remote locations.
