Safety Lead
About the Opportunity
A leading construction project requires an experienced Safety professional to join a large-scale data centre development currently underway in Sydney.
This 12-month contract opportunity will suit an accomplished Safety Lead with extensive experience working on complex construction or infrastructure projects. Operating through your own ABN, you will be responsible for leading health and safety performance across the project while supporting project teams, contractors, and key stakeholders to achieve outstanding safety outcomes.
Key Duties
- Provide visible leadership and direction on all health and safety matters across the project.
- Drive project compliance with applicable WHS legislation, client standards, and project safety requirements.
- Develop, review, and maintain safety management plans, procedures, and site-specific documentation.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety observations, audits, and risk assessments.
- Lead incident investigations and oversee the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure alignment with project expectations.
- Prepare and present safety reports, statistics, and compliance documentation to project leadership.
- Support workforce engagement initiatives that promote a proactive and positive safety culture.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities as required.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in project safety performance.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to site teams to embed secure work practices across all project activities.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in a senior Safety, WHS, or HSE leadership role within the construction, infrastructure, or mission-critical sectors.
- Experience leading safety outcomes on major construction projects.
- Exposure to data centre projects is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian workplace health and safety legislation.
- Proven ability to influence safety outcomes and manage multiple contractor interfaces.
- Relevant qualifications in Work Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong organisational, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and confidently within a contract engagement model.
Contract Details
- Initial 12-month contract engagement.
- Engagement via ABN/consultancy arrangement.
- Monthly package in the vicinity of $19,000–$20,000 + GST, depending on experience and project suitability.
- Opportunity to contribute to a significant data centre construction project within the Sydney market.
