The Role

The APS 6 Portfolio Performance and Reporting – Data Analyst provides portfolio level delivery performance analysis and supports the planning, governance, analysis and reporting of major maritime delivery programs across the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group.

The role provides analytical, reporting and assurance support across a complex portfolio of naval shipbuilding and sustainment delivery programs. The role is responsible for monitoring portfolio performance and providing data-driven insights that support senior leaders in making informed decisions on capability delivery, investment priorities and resource allocation. You will analyse program schedules, milestones, risks, dependencies, workforce and financial performance, identify emerging trends and issues, and contribute to portfolio reviews and assurance activities.

You will develop high-quality reports, dashboards, briefs and presentations for executive and governance stakeholders, ensuring that information is accurate, timely and fit for purpose. Through analysis of portfolio delivery data, you will support planning, prioritisation and investment decision-making processes, helping to provide visibility of portfolio health and delivery outcomes across the naval capability lifecycle.

The position works with limited direction, contributes specialist advice, and supports senior leaders,

boards and governance committees through high quality reporting and analysis.

About our Team

The Chief Engineer and Portfolio Management Office (CEPMO) is situated within the Office of Deputy Secretary (DEPSEC) Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG).

The branch provides governance and assurance of Naval Shipbuilding and sustainment delivery activities, spanning Engineering, Technology and Materiel Logistics functions, Portfolio Governance, Resource Management, Workforce, and Corporate Systems. The directorate of Portfolio Governance has oversight and manages the range of portfolio (portfolio, project and product) reporting in the NSSG.

The team is currently working on uplifting the portfolio reporting function in the group to understand performance, capability gaps and identify opportunities to address these and inform senior leadership group and Government decision-making.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate is a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who enjoys working with complex information and translating data into meaningful insights. You are naturally curious, able to identify trends, risks and emerging issues,

and confident in using evidence-based analysis to support decision-making within a large and complex operating environment like the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group.

Understanding the broader strategic objectives and directions of the organization, you have strong reporting and communication skills, with the ability to develop clear, accurate and impactful reports, dashboards, briefs and presentations for a range of stakeholders, including senior executives and governance forums. You can synthesise information from multiple sources, present complex issues in a concise and accessible way, and provide insights that help inform delivery, investment decisions and portfolio priorities.

You take ownership of your work, exercise sound judgement and are capable of managing competing priorities with minimal supervision. You proactively identify opportunities for improvement, challenge existing approaches where appropriate, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation to ensure data is managed appropriately and remains fit for reporting, compliance/assurance and decision-making purposes.

Most importantly, you are a collaborative team member who builds productive relationships with stakeholders, works effectively across multiple priorities and delivers high-quality outcomes in a energetic and evolving environment. Your ability to combine analytical rigor, strategic thinking and clear communication will enable you to contribute to the successful delivery of critical naval shipbuilding and sustainment capabilities.
