Advance HR is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant for an urgent temporary assignment with an established not-for-profit organisation based in Brunswick.
This is an immediate-start opportunity providing critical support to the Finance team during a period of transition. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to receive a handover from the outgoing Financial Accountant and step into a broad, hands‑on role covering financial and management accounting, reporting, reconciliations and general finance operations.
We are looking for an experienced Accountant who can quickly get across an established finance function, work autonomously and ensure continuity across key financial processes.
The role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide financial and management accounting support across multiple associated entities.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing financial and management accounting reports
- Maintaining and monitoring financial accounting systems and processes
- General Ledger and bank account reconciliations
- Assisting with budgeting, expenditure monitoring and financial reporting
- Cashflow management, reporting and forecasting
- Maintaining asset and depreciation schedules
- Supporting month-end accounting processes
- Managing and supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Supplier, credit card and account reconciliations
- Assisting with debt collection and invoicing
- Supporting financial management of projects and grants, including job costing
- Preparing information for statutory and taxation requirements including BAS, PAYG and FBT
- Assisting with accounting audits
- Providing payroll support, including payroll on-costs such as superannuation, WorkCover, Payroll Tax and PAYG
- Providing broader accounting and finance support as required
About you
This role will suit an experienced, hands‑on Financial Accountant who is comfortable stepping into an established environment and taking ownership of a broad range of finance responsibilities.
Ideally, you will have:
- A strong understanding of financial and management accounting principles
- Experience across General Ledger, reconciliations and financial reporting
- Strong accounts payable and accounts receivable knowledge
- Experience with budgeting, cashflow and financial analysis
- Knowledge of BAS, GST, FBT and other Australian statutory requirements
- Payroll knowledge, including PAYG, superannuation, Payroll Tax and WorkCover
- Experience using MYOB or a similar accounting system
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A relevant Accounting degree and CPA/CA qualification will be highly regarded.
- Experience within an RTO, VET/training environment, not-for-profit or construction-related organisation would also be advantageous.
