What you'll do
- Lead the visual effects team in the design and execution of stunning CG effects that enhance storytelling and visual appeal in animated projects.
- Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and other departments to ensure that FX work aligns with the overall vision of the project.
- Develop and maintain FX pipelines, ensuring that workflows are efficient and that the team adheres to production schedules.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior artists, fostering their growth and development in the field of visual effects.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, integrating current techniques and tools into the FX production process.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to FX creation, ensuring high-quality output under tight deadlines.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on FX shots, ensuring they meet the artistic and technical standards set by the studio.
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions, contributing innovative ideas that push the boundaries of visual storytelling.
- Assist in the recruitment and training of new team members, helping to build a strong and talented FX department.
- Manage project budgets related to FX production, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as lighting and compositing, to ensure seamless integration of FX into final shots.
- Document processes and create tutorials to share knowledge and best practices within the team.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in visual effects production, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Houdini, Maya, and Nuke, with a deep understanding of particle systems, simulations, and compositing techniques.
- Strong artistic skills, with a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of animation principles.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve their best work.
- Strong problem-solving skills,
with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing project requirements.
Nice to have
- Experience in a leadership role within an animation or visual effects studio.
- Familiarity with game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity for real-time FX applications.
- Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or MEL to automate tasks and enhance workflows.
- Previous experience working on feature films, television series, or high-quality animated content.
- A passion for storytelling and a strong understanding of how visual effects contribute to narrative development.
Skills & tools
- Expertise in visual effects software: Houdini, Maya, Nuke, and other relevant tools.
- Strong artistic sensibility and understanding of color theory, lighting, and composition.
- Familiarity with project management software and version control systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
