The small animal surgery referral service offers specialty services in soft tissue, oncologic surgery, orthopaedic and neurosurgery. Our full range of facilities, state‑of‑the‑art surgical equipment and integrated support from specialist level anaesthesia, 24‑hour intensive care, internal medicine, advanced diagnostic imaging and nursing standards enable us to manage the most complex surgical challenges and ensure that our patients receive a very high standard of care across all aspects of surgical management.

Employment Details

Fixed Term – 12 months, Full Time – 37.5 hours per week. Salary range: $82,210 – $88,445 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation contributions, with the option to sacrifice 5% superannuation into your salary.

Responsibilities

- Provide all aspects of veterinary nursing care as per the Certificate IV of Veterinary Nursing and the Prescribed Duties of Veterinary Nurses within the Veterinary Surgeons Act of WA.
- Comply with University and TAHMU policies, procedures and protocols and with the Veterinary Surgeons’ Act of WA and other related Acts and Regulations.
- Lead the surgery nursing team and coordinate their day‑to‑day activities ensuring duties are performed to the required standard.
- Manage the nursing team including recruitment, training, rostering and compliance.
- Maintain relationships with referral practices and clients.
- Oversee billing and insurance documentation for the department.
- Provide nursing support when required.
- Ensure all aspects of biosecurity are considered, including liaison with CSSD.
- Engage stakeholders within the hospital and maintain the department’s equipment.
- Assist in the instruction of students.
- Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

- Essential: Completion of a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent,



or a relevant Veterinary Nursing Diploma registrable in Western Australia.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a veterinary practice, post‑qualification.
- Proven supervisory experience, including the ability to positively lead a team in a busy clinical environment.
- Excellent knowledge of diagnostic and surgical equipment and aseptic techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with a range of surgical procedures and patient care in general practice.
- Excellent organisational, time and workload management skills, with the ability to prioritise to meet strict deadlines.
- Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Initiative, responsibility for tasks and projects, and problem‑solving ability.
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with the MS Office suite.
- Desirable: Previous experience in a veterinary teaching hospital environment.
- Desirable: Experience in specialist surgical nursing practices.
- Desirable: Experience with ezyVet, Vet Radar, and CUBEX software.
- Desirable: Experience in training undergraduate students.
- Desirable: Knowledge of and experience with specialist surgical equipment.
