Launch Housing volunteers help us end homelessness by providing support, coaching and a friendly environment to young people in our Education First Youth (EFY) Foyers.
About The L2P Driving Mentor Volunteer Role
This role is based out of the Education First Youth Foyer in Broadmeadows.
EFY Foyers offer young people aged 16‑25 who are unable to live at home access to education, training, employment opportunities and student‑style accommodation on TAFE campuses. Students receive:
- practical learning tools and skills
- access to education, training and employment opportunities
- safe and affordable accommodation for up to two years
- coaching and 24‑hour on‑site support from trained staff
- opportunities to develop independent living skills
The Foyers focus on education and secure housing to enable young people to concentrate on studies, career aspirations, work experience and sustainable employment.

How Will You Make a Difference
- Interact with clients, offering a friendly and supportive environment
- Assist with organising and running events for clients
- Facilitate or assist in workshops such as art or cooking classes to empower clients with new skills
- Actively engage with safety and security systems on accommodation/office sites
- Role‑model positive behaviour and attitudes while ensuring the safety of young people at all times
- Engage in any other duties agreed with the volunteer supervisor
Specific Responsibilities in This Role
- Provide driving guidance and mentorship to young people at the EFY Foyer who want to obtain their probationary licence by gaining 120 hours of driving experience through the L2P Program with HWLLEN
- Undertake required training, noting that the EFY Foyer and L2P share recruitment and oversee training of Foyer L2P Driver Mentors
Key Selection Criteria
- Must be over 21 years of age
- Have an interest in working with young people striving for independence
- Hold a current full Victorian driver licence
- Have a satisfactory driver licence history
- Be medically fit to drive
- Undertake an interview with Foyer staff and the Hume TAC L2P Coordinator
- Commit approximately 1–2 hours per week and be flexible
- Have good communication skills and use a mentoring/coaching approach rather than instructional
- Be able to undertake training in person and online (about 10 hours total)
- Report any concerns or issues arising within the mentoring relationship to the Foyer and L2P Program Coordinator
- Exercise a duty of care for the learner driver, ensuring safety at all times
- Demonstrate commitment to the values of Launch Housing and the mission to end homelessness
Safety Screening Requirements
- Provide two appropriate referees for reference checks
- Hold a current Volunteer Working with Children Check (obtained during recruitment at Launch Housing’s cost)
- Have a satisfactory Volunteer Police History Check obtained during recruitment at Launch Housing’s cost
- Provide certified evidence of qualifications related to the role (if applicable)
- Applicants are not automatically precluded on disclosable outcomes; a member of People Experience Team will discuss this if required
All volunteers must hold a valid Working with Children Check and satisfactory criminal history record check and will undergo rigorous screening.
