This is more than a transactional accounting role.
As our Payroll Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day financial and payroll operations of the business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all processes.
You’ll be responsible for managing payroll processing, supporting accounts payable and receivable, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and reporting requirements.
Working closely with the Finance team and key stakeholders, you’ll help maintain smooth operations while identifying opportunities to improve processes and systems.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role you will:
- Process end-to-end payroll on a regular cycle (fortnightly and monthly for multiple entities), ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Maintain employee payroll records, including new starters, terminations, leave balances, and adjustments
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, and tax requirements
- Process superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax and payroll-related reconciliations
- Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and stakeholders in a professional and timely manner
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Prepare and reconcile bank, balance sheet, and payroll-related accounts
- Support the accounts payable and receivable functions, including liaising with creditors and processing payments
- Assist with the preparation of management reports, financial reports and audits (as required)
- Ensure accurate record keeping and documentation in line with regulatory requirements and maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information
About You
You are a detail-oriented and reliable finance professional who takes pride in accuracy and efficiency.
You enjoy working across both payroll and accounting functions and are confident managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
You’ll bring:
- 3+ years’ experience in payroll and/or accounting roles
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including awards, tax, and superannuation
- High attention to detail and robust organisational skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Experience using payroll and accounting systems (e.g. Xero, MYOB, or similar)
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
