ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will take overall responsibility for the software operating on the electronics that control our systems. Your mission is to design, develop, and support embedded systems and the custom tools that make them possible. This role is based at our Marsden Park office.
WHAT'S INVOLVED:
- Architecture & Design: Define the structure of embedded systems to ensure they are scalable and reliable.
- Full-Stack Embedded Dev: Develop, test, and review firmware while creating custom tools for validation and production.
- Problem Solving: Diagnose complex hardware/software issues and provide practical, evidence-based solutions.
- Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with hardware, manufacturing, and quality teams to achieve business goals.
What You Bring
We are looking for a technical specialist who is proactive, analytical, and ready to innovate.
- Embedded Programming: Proficient in C, C , C#, and Python for developing real-time control software.
- Embedded Architecture & Microcontrollers: Strong knowledge of STM32 and PIC architectures,
designing and programming the microcontrollers that serve as the core control units of embedded systems.
- Wi-Fi & TCP/IP Networking: Experience with embedded Wi-Fi station/AP operation, provisioning, DHCP, DNS, IPv4, sockets, recovery, roaming and modern mesh-router interoperability.
- IoT & Secure Cloud Communication: Experience with MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS certificates, secure credentials, authentication, reconnect strategies, telemetry and cloud commands
- Real-Time Systems: Skilled in configuring and managing RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS, ensuring multiple processes run reliably in time-critical environments.
- Communication Protocols: Hands-on experience with UART, I²C, SPI, RS485, Modbus RTU/TCP, and Bluetooth (BLE)
- Linux-Based Development: Skilled in developing and testing embedded applications under Linux
- Firmware Update & Product Lifecycle: Experience with secure bootloaders, local/OTA updates, image validation, rollback, version control and production programming.
- Hardware Integration: Able to read electronic schematics, perform board bring-up, and use instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal analyzers to diagnose hardware-software interactions.
- User Interface Design:
Experienced in designing interactive displays with TouchGFX and Qt creating intuitive control panels for embedded devices.
- Software Engineering Practices: Experience with modular design, static analysis, unit/integration testing, reviews, Git/Bitbucket, CI and defect management.
- Analytical & Collaborative Approach
- Well-developed interpersonal skills
- Strong communication (written and oral) skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
