We are seeking highly skilled Senior IP Network Designers to join our Core IP Engineering team supporting one of Australia's largest telecommunications providers.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, modernising, and transforming large-scale carrier-grade IP networks across Cisco and Juniper platforms . You will produce detailed engineering designs, migration strategies, implementation plans, and technical documentation while ensuring the highest standards of network resiliency, scalability, and operational excellence.
This role requires deep expertise in carrier IP technologies, robust design governance, and the ability to work within highly critical production environments where network stability and service continuity are paramount.
Responsibilities:
- Design carrier-grade IP/MPLS network solutions across Cisco and Juniper platforms.
- Produce HLDs, LLDs, migration plans, implementation procedures, rollback plans, and engineering documentation.
- Perform technical impact assessments and identify risks before implementing network changes.
- Design highly available, resilient, and scalable network solutions with minimal customer impact.
- Develop routing solutions using BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, Segment Routing, EVPN, QoS, IPv4 and IPv6.
- Participate in design reviews, architecture forums, and change governance activities.
- Collaborate with Network Operations, Provisioning, NOC, Project Management, and Vendor teams during implementation.
- Support complex migrations and maintenance activities while ensuring successful service validation.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and as-built records.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Comply with workplace Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Undertake any other duties as required by the business.
Experience & Skills:
- 8+ years' experience in IP Network Design within carrier or service provider environments.
- Proven experience designing and modernising Cisco and Juniper Core IP networks.
- Experience working on live production networks with strict change management processes.
- Demonstrated success delivering complex network changes without introducing service outages.
- Strong expertise in Cisco IOS-XR, IOS-XE, ASR, NCS, Catalyst and Nexus platforms.
- Strong experience with Juniper Junos OS and MX/PTX platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, Segment Routing, EVPN, L2/L3 VPN, QoS, IPv4/ IPv6
- Experience in carrier-grade routing, redundancy, resilience, capacity planning, and network optimisation.
- Ability to develop migration strategies, implementation plans, validation procedures, and rollback plans.
- Knowledge of Python, Ansible, or network automation tools is desirable.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science, or related engineering field. (Mandatory)
- Cisco CCNP / CCIE Enterprise or Service Provider. (Preferred)
- Juniper JNCIP / JNCIE. (Preferred)
- Experience supporting Tier-1 telecommunications providers. (Preferred)
- Experience with Core IP Modernisation or Transformation programs. (Preferred)
- Knowledge of network automation and Infrastructure as Code. (Preferred)
