Our client is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join a major mining construction project south of Karratha. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, hands‑on safety professional who can build strong relationships across site while maintaining high safety standards.
This is a six‑month contract position commencing as soon as possible, working a 2:1 FIFO roster from Perth. The successful candidate will provide senior safety leadership across earthworks and lining activities, taking ownership of day‑to‑day site safety matters when the current senior leader is unavailable.
This is not a purely administrative or systems‑focused position. Our client is looking for someone who is visible in the field, credible with the workforce and confident managing issues involving engineers, supervisors and subcontractors.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing senior Health and Safety leadership across earthworks and lining activities
- Conducting regular field inspections, safety observations and workplace audits
- Identifying hazards and ensuring suitable controls are implemented
- Reviewing SWMS, JHAs, risk assessments and permits
- Coaching supervisors, engineers, employees and subcontractors in safe work practices
- Addressing unsafe behaviour confidently and constructively
- Managing safety issues involving multiple contractors and subcontractors
- Maintaining strong working relationships with the client and subcontractor representatives
- Preparing safety reports, statistics and supporting documentation
- Monitoring compliance with project procedures and WA safety legislation
- Supporting emergency response and incident‑management processes
- Balancing safety requirements with productivity and project delivery
- Escalating significant risks while independently resolving routine site issues
What you’ll need:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
- At least five years’ Health and Safety experience within mining construction, with ten years considered highly desirable
- Previous FIFO experience within mining, civil, earthworks or major resources projects
- Experience managing contractors and subcontractors
- Solid knowledge of risk assessments, SWMS, JHAs, incident investigations and site compliance
- A practical, field‑focused approach to Health and Safety
- Confidence influencing engineers, supervisors and experienced site personnel
- The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions independently
- Availability to commence at short notice and work a 2:1 FIFO roster from Perth
- Ability to complete the required medical, drug and alcohol screening and site onboarding
