About Ferronova
Ferronova is an Adelaide-based medical technology company developing next-generation tools for cancer surgery and imaging. Our FerroTrace® magnetic nanoparticle tracer and FerroMag® magnetometer platform are designed to help surgeons more accurately locate and remove cancer-affected lymph nodes. We're an R&D-stage; business where the work is hands‑on, the science is genuinely novel, and the people who join now help shape how we build.
The Role
We're looking for a Production Manager to lead the development, optimisation and scale‑up of our nanoparticle and polymer synthesis processes. Reporting to the CEO and working alongside our R&D; and production teams, you'll take manufacturing methods from the bench toward robust, reproducible, regulation‑ready production — making sure every process is safe, compliant and built to last.
This is a pivotal role for someone who enjoys solving hard process‑engineering problems and wants their work to translate directly into a real clinical product.
What you'll do
- Design and oversee experiments to scale up and optimise nanoparticle and polymer processes
- Develop scalable, reproducible and robust manufacturing methods, in collaboration with team members and consultants
- Troubleshoot process performance issues and lead root‑cause analysis
- Analyse data and write comprehensive reports for submission to regulatory bodies, including characterisation reports, manufacturing records and certificates of analysis
- Author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Project Working Instructions (PWIs)
- Carry out manufacturing to defined PWIs, SOPs and methodologies
- Maintain GMP laboratory compliance, including disinfection and environmental monitoring during production
- Assist with the purchase, installation and qualification of new laboratory equipment,
and perform maintenance, calibration and verification
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure chemicals are handled, stored and disposed of safely
- Keep the laboratory a safe working setting and support routine inspections
- Ensure compliance with Ferronova's internal procedures, regulatory requirements and international standards
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners (CDMOs) and supply chains to transition manufacturing to commercialisation
What you'll bring
- A Masters or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in a manufacturing facility, ideally in pharmaceuticals or medical devices
- Hands‑on experience in nanoparticle and polymer synthesis and analysis
- Working knowledge of cGMP and ISO 13485 requirements
- Experience with automation and equipment integration for process development and control
- Vendor and supply‑chain management skills
- Strong knowledge of safe chemical handling
- High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
- Good organisation and time management, with a focus on timely delivery
- Proficiency with MS Office, Google Workspace and ChemWatch
The details
- Location: Adelaide, Australia (on-site)
- Department: Research & Development
- Reports to: CEO
