About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our ANZ Finance team on a permanent full-time basis.
Reporting to the Finance Operations Manager, this newly created role provides an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career finance professional to develop practical experience across core accounting functions. You will support the Finance team with transaction processing, reconciliations, month-end activities, reporting support, and continuous improvement initiatives while working alongside experienced finance professionals in a collaborative environment. This position is ideal for someone who is curious, analytical, highly organised, and eager to build a long-term career in finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with Accounts Payable activities, including invoice processing, vendor payments, account reconciliations, and maintaining accurate accounting records
- Support month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and preparation of supporting schedules
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, debtor, creditor, and general ledger accounts, investigating and escalating reconciling items where required
- Maintain accurate data within finance systems and assist with finance process documentation
- Contribute ideas and initiatives to improve finance processes, efficiency, accuracy, and transparency
- Support compliance with internal controls, approval processes, audit requirements, taxation obligations, and company accounting policies
- Provide general finance administration and support to the Finance Operations Manager, Financial Accountant, and broader ANZ Finance team as required
- Complete assigned finance tasks accurately, within agreed timeframes, and in accordance with company procedures
- Identify discrepancies, data quality issues, and process exceptions, escalating matters where appropriate
- Handle confidential financial and commercial information with discretion and professionalism
About You
- Recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related discipline, or 1–2 years' experience in a similar accounting or finance support role
- Sound understanding of basic accounting principles, including double-entry accounting, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Solid numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with a willingness to further develop advanced spreadsheet and reporting skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence to build effective working relationships across the business
- Positive attitude, strong learning agility, and a genuine desire to develop a career in finance
- Professional, reliable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality and high standards of accuracy
