Responsibilities

You will work in a variety of settings including homes, schools and community venues. Your duties may include:

- Assessing children’s language development and preparing NDIS plan review reports.
- Conducting therapy sessions focused on speech sound production.
- Performing mealtime management assessments for adults with dysphagia.
- Programming and training participants to use AAC devices.
- Writing and maintaining NDIS‑compatible documentation, therapy notes and progress reports.
- Collaborating with support coordinators and other providers.

Who you would support

- Children with autism spectrum disorder, developmental language disorder or childhood apraxia of speech.
- Adults with acquired brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron disease or intellectual disability.
- Older Australians receiving aged care services, particularly requiring dysphagia assessment and mealtime support.

Pay and Working Arrangements

- Weekday: $38 – $62 per hour




- Saturday: $57 – $93 per hour
- Sunday: $67 – $109 per hour
- Public holiday: $76 – $124 per hour

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited Australian institution.
- Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
- Competency in at least one of: paediatric language and communication, adult acquired communication disorders, or dysphagia management.
- Experience conducting standardised assessments and writing NDIS‑compatible reports.
- Ability to deliver therapy and train communication partners in home and community settings.
- Reliable vehicle and current driver’s licence.
- Experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems (valued).
- Professional Indemnity Insurance (or willingness to obtain).

Checks and Credentials

- Speech Pathology Australia membership: $400–$800 per year, maintained annually.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check: State dependent, $110–$160, valid 5 years, 4–8 weeks processing.
- Police Check: $50–$80, valid 3 years, often processed within days.
- Accredited degree in speech pathology (required).
- Skilled indemnity insurance: $100–$500 per year, renewed annually.
- CPR certification: 1‑day course, valid 3 years, $90–$160.
