Many Rivers is a for-purpose organisation that provides Microenterprise Development and Community Economic Development support to Indigenous and other Australians who face barriers to participating in the economy. The organisation has a particular focus on Indigenous Australians in regional and remote communities. Many Rivers walks alongside individuals and communities over the long term, offering practical business development support, products and services, including pro-bono legal advice and microfinance business loans.
Through this support, clients can build sustainable businesses, improve financial security, reduce stress, and move away from welfare dependency. Many Rivers aims to help people provide for their families and contribute more productively to society through income generation, job creation, and increased economic participation.
Role Description The Senior Manager Microfinance is a full-time, hybrid role based in Sydney, NSW, with the flexibility to work from home for part of the week. This role leads the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of microfinance products and services tailored to the needs of Many Rivers’ clients, particularly in Indigenous and remote communities. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing loan portfolio performance, setting and monitoring risk and credit policies, and ensuring compliance with relevant financial and regulatory requirements.
The Senior
Manager will collaborate with field teams and community partners to align microfinance offerings with broader business development support,
and will prepare reports, insights, and recommendations for senior leadership and stakeholders. The role also involves coaching and mentoring team members, managing key external relationships (such as lenders and legal partners), and contributing to strategic initiatives that enhance client outcomes and community economic development.
About You
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret financial data, assess risk, and generate actionable insights.
Expertise in finance and financial services, particularly in lending, microfinance, or community-focused financial products.
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices relevant to loan portfolio management and financial reporting.
Experience in auditing or oversight of financial processes, controls, and regulatory compliance.
Proven leadership experience managing teams or programs in financial or social enterprise settings.
Understanding of microenterprise development, economic inclusion, and working respectfully with Indigenous and culturally diverse communities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and locations.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related discipline; postgraduate study is an advantage.
Demonstrated capacity to balance social impact objectives with sound financial management and risk controls.

You are an accomplished senior leader with experience leading managers, complex operations, programs or business units and delivering strong operational, financial and people outcomes. You bring commercial acumen, disciplined execution and a genuine commitment to purpose-led work.

Significant senior leadership experience, ideally in not-for-profit, community development, social enterprise, financial services or related sectors.
Proven ability to execute strategy and deliver outcomes in complex environments.
Experience building high-performing teams, developing leaders and fostering accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.
Solid commercial, analytical and reporting capability, including using data to drive performance.
Experience leading change, transformation or business improvement.
Outstanding communication and presentation skills with executive and governance audiences.
Confidence using contemporary business systems, data analytics and productivity tools, including Microsoft 365, Power BI, CRM and reporting systems.
Experience in regional, rural or remote Australia, Indigenous entrepreneurship and government-funded or outcomes-based programs will be highly regarded.
