About the role

Instrument Technician Grade 1 for a fixed‑term full‑time basis (6 months) in the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). The role involves decontamination, assembly, sterilisation, packaging and distribution of reusable medical devices while maintaining the highest standards of infection prevention and patient safety.

Responsibilities

- Perform cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilisation and packaging of reusable medical devices in accordance with AS/NZS 4187 standards and infection control requirements.
- Ensure safe handling, tracking, storage and distribution of sterile supplies and instruments throughout the hospital.
- Support provision of high‑quality sterilising services to all clinical departments, contributing to protected and effective patient care.
- Monitor and maintain sterilisation equipment and processes, ensuring compliance with validation protocols, quality standards and organisational procedures.
- Accurately complete documentation and maintain records relating to sterilisation, instrument tracking and quality assurance activities.
- Work collaboratively with theatre, clinical and CSSD teams to ensure service efficiency, continuous improvement and timely availability of surgical instruments and equipment.

- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
- Well‑developed organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- A reliable and collaborative team player with strong communication skills and a commitment to patient‑centred care.
- Understanding of infection prevention principles,



sterilisation processes and the handling of reusable medical devices, or a willingness to develop these skills.
- Commitment to professional development, with a willingness to undertake or complete a Certificate IV in Sterilising Services (or equivalent) highly regarded.
