This is a 6 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency

The School Attendance Officer is responsible for assisting school communities with processes that aim to improve student attendance, participation, and engagement in educational programs. This includes monitoring student attendance, producing absence reports, amending absence records, collecting and analysing absenteeism data, and assisting with the development and implementation of individual student attendance improvement plans.

The role also involves liaison with parents and carers, providing advice to students, staff and parents/carers, developing links between families/carers and the school, and identifying and addressing obstacles to school attendance.

The officer will also collaborate with school staff, Department staff, parents/carers and the wider community to identify student absenteeism and address issues which impact on student attendance, assist teachers and the school administrative team to explore alternative educational, vocational or employment options,



and assist school staff with the development and implementation of community activities and projects aimed at improving student attendance. The officer will also maintain confidentiality, understanding and reliability in dealing with all persons related to student attendance.

Qualifications

- Australian or Recent Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
