Our client operates one of Australia's largest and most business-critical technology environments, supporting services that millions of Australians rely on every day. With significant investment in technology and infrastructure, they're undertaking one of the largest platform transformation programs in the country. This includes consolidating six enterprise data centres into three while modernising an environment comprising approximately 5,000 virtual machines across 300 ESXi hosts.

About the opportunity:

Reporting to the Platform Manager, you'll become the Principal Platform Engineer and technical authority across the organisation's infrastructure platforms. This is a genuine hands‑on Principal Engineer position where you'll influence technical direction, mentor engineers across the team, and act as the technical second‑in‑command to the Platform Manager. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of the platform while remaining deeply involved in engineering and solution delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

- Providing technical leadership across VMware Cloud Foundation, virtualisation and platform infrastructure.
- Leading engineering decisions and influencing infrastructure architecture and best practice.
- Supporting major initiatives including VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9 upgrade, data centre consolidation and current data centre go‑live activities.

About You:





You’ll be an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and influencing engineering outcomes within large enterprise environments.

You’ll ideally bring:

- Deep experience across compute, storage & virtualisation
- Advanced VMware skills; Cloud Foundation (VCF), vSphere, NSX and Horizon
- Experience supporting both Windows and Linux platforms in a hybrid environment
- An automation‑first mindset with experience using Ansible, PowerCLI or similar technologies
- The confidence to challenge the status quo, influence technical direction and introduce new ideas
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to mentor and influence without direct people leadership

Australian Citizenship is essential, together with the ability to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance.
