We are looking for an experienced Nursery / Greenlife Team Member to take responsibility for the care, presentation and day-to-day operation of our garden nursery.
This is a part-time or casual position suited to someone who has previously worked in a retail nursery, garden centre or commercial greenlife environment.
The successful applicant will primarily work within our nursery and garden area, taking ownership of its presentation, stock management and seasonal development. You'll provide knowledgeable advice to customers while contributing to purchasing decisions, seasonal ordering and the ongoing growth of our nursery department.
Key responsibilities
- Providing knowledgeable and practical advice to customers on plants, gardening products and suitable garden solutions
- Caring for nursery stock through appropriate watering, feeding, pruning and general maintenance to ensure high presentation standards
- Identifying and responding to plant health issues, including pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies and environmental stress
- Ordering nursery stock, generating purchase orders and maintaining appropriate stock levels throughout the year
- Liaising with growers and suppliers regarding stock availability, seasonal varieties and new product lines
- Collecting nursery stock from Melbourne suppliers and other growers as required
- Receiving, checking, pricing and merchandising incoming nursery deliveries
- Assisting with the selection and planning of seasonal plant ranges
- Creating attractive, inspiring and commercially effective nursery displays
- Maintaining accurate pricing, promotional ticketing and point-of-sale information
- Operating the point-of-sale system and assisting customers throughout the store when required
- Maintaining a clean, organised and protected nursery environment
- Following workplace health and safety requirements, safe manual handling practices and company procedures
What we’re looking for
- Previous employment experience within a retail nursery, garden centre or commercial greenlife setting is essential
- Strong practical knowledge of plant care, seasonal plant selection and retail nursery operations
- Confidence identifying common pests, diseases and plant health issues
- Experience ordering nursery stock or contributing to purchasing decisions will be highly regarded
- Ability to provide accurate, practical and friendly customer advice
- Experience using a retail point-of-sale system, or the ability to learn quickly
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining an exceptional nursery presentation
- Physically capable of lifting pots, plants, bags of soil and other garden products
- Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions
- Current driver's licence
- Reliable, well organised and able to work independently while contributing positively to the team
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, with the ability to follow company procedures and safe work practices
