About Katherine West Health Board

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a community‑led Aboriginal health service delivering integrated primary healthcare, family support, and wellbeing programs across a vast 162,000 km² footprint in the NT — spanning from the WA border to the edge of the Tanami Desert.

Our work goes beyond clinics. It is grounded in Aboriginal cultural values, self‑determination, and a belief in holistic care — where healing includes the spiritual, cultural, emotional, and social dimensions of wellbeing.

We are known for our welcoming and supportive teams, with people who genuinely collaborate to improve outcomes for the communities they serve. We value inclusion, connection, and creating spaces where people feel respected and safe — and where you will be backed from day one.

This isn't just a job. It is an opportunity to be part of a community‑focused organisation making a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal people and families across the Katherine West region.

More Than a Project Officer Role

This role brings together three connected programmes under our Access and Inclusion team: Safe Stays, which supports people experiencing homelessness in Katherine to access safe accommodation and return to their home communities; Living Proud, which supports people to maintain their tenancy and live safely on country; and Healthy Homes, which supports people through audits,

advocacy and education to improve the home for good health.

It is genuinely impactful work — KWHB is contracted to support 270 individuals through Safe Stays and a further 207 through Living Proud each year, and every one of those numbers is a person you will help move toward stability.

You will work under the close guidance of our Safe Stays and Living Proud Coordinator, and you will not be doing this alone. You will be budded up with an experienced team member for community visits from the outset, building your confidence and connections at your own pace.

Your Impact

Reporting to the Manager of Access and Inclusion, and working under the guidance of our Safe Stays and Living Proud Coordinator, you will provide culturally safe, client‑centred support to Aboriginal people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. You will split your time roughly evenly between Katherine and remote communities (around two weeks per month), travelling by road and light aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

- Case management and culturally secure support for clients experiencing homelessness in Katherine
- Managing client intake fairly against programme eligibility criteria
- Helping clients access safe temporary accommodation through advocacy and referral
- Liaising with accommodation providers to ensure culturally secure service delivery
- Coordinating transport for clients' safe return home
- Conducting Healthy Homes audits and educating clients on healthy homes
- Supporting clients to access welfare payments and financial support

- Working with housing and environmental health teams to resolve tenancy issues
- Building relationships with local services, community organisations and government agencies
- Maintaining accurate, confidential client records

To Qualify, You Will Need

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people in the housing or social services sector
- Strong communication and community engagement skills, with the ability to work respectfully and collaboratively across diverse stakeholders
- The ability to build effective relationships with accommodation providers, transport operators, government agencies and community organisations
- Well‑developed time‑management skills to manage a diverse caseload in a multi‑disciplinary team
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to travel to remote communities
- A current or obtainable NT Driver's Licence, Working with Children Clearance and Criminal History Check

The Following Will Also Be Highly Valued

- A qualification in Aboriginal Health, Community Services, Community Development, Social Work, AOD or Mental Health
- Experience living and working in remote Aboriginal communities
- Experience in public health, health promotion or client education, particularly around housing and healthy homes

What You'll Get

- Competitive salary approx. $80,000‑$95,000 + 12% super
- 6 weeks' annual leave
- Salary packaging opportunities
- Relocation support, including temporary accommodation while you settle in
