Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service is seeking a full-time Aboriginal Liaison Officer Team Leader based in Hobart, TAS. Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager , you will support the day-to-day leadership of a statewide ALO team while remaining hands‑on in intake, assessment, client support, and community engagement.

This is an identified position , open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people . TALS considers being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander a genuine occupational requirement.

Duties

- Providing day‑to‑day support, leadership, and guidance to Aboriginal Liaison Officers
- Supporting culturally responsive practice across intake, assessment, referrals, and client support
- Assisting clients and staff to navigate legal, social, health, housing, and community service systems
- Advocating for equitable access to services and coordinating appropriate referrals and supports
- Maintaining respectful relationships with Tasmanian Aboriginal communities, Elders, Aboriginal organisations, government agencies, and stakeholders
- Assisting with ALO policies, procedures, onboarding, induction, and role‑specific training
- Supporting recruitment, leave coverage, and performance‑related matters as requested
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting data using organisational systems
- Taking a hands‑on approach to intake, eligibility,



and non‑legal client support

Skills & experience

- Identify and be recognised as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person under the Commonwealth definition
- Current registration to work with vulnerable people in Tasmania, or willingness to obtain
- Current national police history check, or willingness to obtain
- Relevant qualifications in social work, youth justice, counselling, or a related discipline will be highly regarded
- Experience in case management, community services, youth work, justice, client support, or supporting vulnerable people
- Experience leading, mentoring, supporting, or guiding a team or individuals
- Robust knowledge of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, communities, and cultural protocols
- Strong communication, time management, record‑keeping, and reporting skills
- Current driver’s licence preferred, with willingness to travel across Tasmania, including overnight travel when required
- Salary of $89,882 plus super , made up of $86,700 base salary plus $3,182 Community Engagement Allowance
