Full Stack Developer (Rails + Angular) – Warriewood, Sydney

Full-time, permanent

- Hybrid arrangement available
- Reporting to the CTO

We are looking for a mid-senior Full Stack Developer to join our small internal engineering team in Warriewood, Sydney Northern Beaches. You will build features across a Ruby on Rails backend and an Angular frontend for a platform used by automotive workshops worldwide, delivered from three independent AWS regional stacks.

Workshop Software is an innovative cloud-based platform that helps automotive workshops manage their operations efficiently. Our solution streamlines booking, invoicing, inventory, and customer communication, enabling businesses to enhance productivity and deliver exceptional service to their clients. We integrate with accounting platforms, parts suppliers, and vehicle data providers worldwide.

If you have spent your career getting good at Rails and are tired of the market pretending that skill has expired, read on. Our backend is Rails and is staying Rails. We are paying properly for people who are genuinely good at it.

Why this role is interesting

- Full stack means full stack. Our backend workload is heavier than our frontend workload, and you will move between the two rather than wait for work that fits a narrow specialism.
- You will be one of two people who can do the hard front-end work. Complex UI is currently single-threaded through one developer. You will change that.
- A real migration, in flight. A significant AngularJS-to-Angular migration is underway. It is the largest technical programme in the business and you will help shape how it lands.
- AI-augmented engineering, properly governed. AI-assisted code review, QA test-case generation and automated QA runs are part of our normal workflow, backed by a versioned automation library and automatic quality gates. This is how we work, not a pilot.
- You own what you ship. Straight through to production across three AWS regions. No throwing it over a wall.
- Small team, direct line.

You report to the CTO. No layers, no committee, no waiting a fortnight for a decision.

What you will do

- Build and maintain features across the Rails backend and Angular frontend
- Take on complex front-end work across invoicing, payments, scheduling and reporting
- Integrate with accounting platforms, parts suppliers and vehicle data providers
- Contribute to the AngularJS-to-Angular migration
- Work inside our automated quality gates on every change
- Own your work through to production

What we are looking for

- 4+ years commercial development with genuine depth on both server and client side
- Strong, current Ruby on Rails experience. Essential and non-negotiable
- Proven ability to build complex, interactive front-end interfaces. We run Angular; strong React or Vue experience with a real willingness to work in Angular will be considered
- TypeScript, modern JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, responsive design
- Experience working in a large, long-lived codebase and extending code you did not write
- RESTful APIs and third-party integration experience
- PostgreSQL and the ability to reason about query performance
- AWS experience (ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, CloudFront)
- Git and disciplined branching, review and release workflow
- Demonstrable proficiency with AI-assisted development and a genuine willingness to work inside a governed AI-augmented workflow
- Writes well-structured, verifiable code, with automated testing experience

Nice to have: AngularJS-to-Angular migration experience

- accounting integrations (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks)
- vertical SaaS, automotive or trade services
- Jasper Reports
- multi-region applications

Good to know

This is a hands-on engineering role, not a management one, with no direct reports. The product is more than fifteen years old, so extending and maintaining established code sits alongside current feature work. Our quality gates are automated and apply to every change.

Apply with your CV and a short note on the most difficult piece of front-end work you have shipped, and what made it difficult.
