About the role Our Environment, Planning & Native Title team is looking for a Solicitor (2-4 PQE) to join its market-leading Melbourne practice. Working closely with Partners Mark Beaufoy and Emily Heffernan, you will join a collaborative, high-performing team with a strong reputation for advising on complex and high-profile environment, planning, and Aboriginal cultural heritage / native title matters.
In this role, you'll advise major corporations and government entities across the energy, resources, industrial, infrastructure, telecommunications and real estate sectors. Working alongside recognised leaders in the field, you'll develop deep technical expertise and benefit from hands-on experience, mentoring and outstanding opportunities for professional growth.
This is an opportunity to build a broad and varied practice spanning advisory, projects, transactional and contentious work, with exposure to:
- All aspects of land use planning and environmental law including environmental impact assessment (EES, EPBC Act), contaminated land, native title, aboriginal cultural heritage, compulsory acquisition, telecommunications, biodiversity, NGERS, climate change, FOI, administrative law (merits & judicial review) and incident response; and
- Other Mallesons teams (esp. Energy & Resources, Real Estate, Projects, Construction, Disputes, M&A;) and centres as we work collaboratively to support major projects connected with energy transition, digital infrastructure and mine / industrial closure.
About you
- Ideally 2-4 PQE with experience in a specialised environmental and planning law environment (including Government legal teams)
- Excellent analytical, communication and drafting skills
- A willingness to think creatively to tackle complex legal issues
- A strong commitment to client service and relationship-building
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a busy and high-performing team
- An ability to embrace current technologies, including AI-enabled legal tools, as part of your ongoing professional development
