GEGAC Dental is seeking amotivated and reliable Dental Assistant to join our busy and rewardingAboriginal Primary Health Care team. This role offers the prospect to workwithin a supportive multidisciplinary environment delivering culturally safe dentalcare to community.

GEGAC isan Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria.Consisting of about 200 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation thatdelivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services,Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGACadvocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community byprioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing,with culture at the heart of everything we do.

PositionPurpose

The GEGACDental Assistant plays a key role in supporting the delivery of culturallysafe, high-quality oral health services to Aboriginal community in/around theBairnsdale and East Gippsland region. The role contributes to improved oralhealth outcomes through clinical support, client engagement, infectionprevention, care coordination and administrative assistance.

Allclinical activities are undertaken under the direction and supervision of anappropriately qualified oral health clinician and within the scope of practiceof a Dental Assistant.

Key Selection Criteria

- A demonstrated interest in, andunderstand of, Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing principles and the value androle of Aboriginal Health Services.




- Knowledge of infection prevention and sterilisation standards.

Skills& Experience:

- Demonstrated dental assistingexperience in a clinical environment and knowledge and understanding of contemporarydental techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communicationskills especially with Aboriginal community and families.
- Ability to maintain accurate electronicrecords and a demonstrated understanding of confidentiality requirementspertaining to client care and client records.

Personal Attributes:

- Ability to work collaboratively in amulti-disciplinary team environment.
- Strong organisational and timemanagement skills.

Qualifications and RegistrationsRequirement (Essential or Desirable).

- Valid Victorian driver’s licence ESSENTIAL
- Certificate III in Dental Assisting (orrecognised equivalent experience and competency) ESSENTIAL
- Demonstrated experience working as a DentalAssistant, including chairside assistance, infection control and sterilisationprocesses ESSENTIAL
- A satisfactory Working with ChildrenCheck and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
- Ability to work effectively within amultidisciplinary health service environmentESSENTIAL
- A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islanderbackground DESIRABLE
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGACrequirements ESSENTIAL

A valid Working with Children Check and Policecheck is mandatory to work in this organisation.
