Join our Crisis Assessment Treatment Team (CATT) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Based in the Burnie Adult Community Mental Health Service, we are a mental health crisis service that provides expert mental health care including triage, holistic physical and mental health assessment, clinical risk management and crisis intervention within the community setting. You'll work closely with individuals, their families, and both formal and informal support networks to help those presenting with a mental illness. This permanent, full‑time position offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in people’s journeys while working alongside a cooperative multidisciplinary team committed to holistic healthcare approaches.

The Role

- Our services work closely with both the public and private sectors to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
- The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a clinical expert in the area of practice and acts as a clinical resource for nursing, medical and allied health staff in the management of consumers with complex mental health needs, working with other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care within the designated area of practice.

What You'll Do

- Provide discipline‑specific clinical expertise, supportive advice and clinical care across the broader community including in‑reach into the ED as required, based on best practice principles and legal and professional requirements, using specialist assessment and screening tools to deliver improved outcomes for patients presenting with mental health concerns and/or addiction‑related comorbidities.
- Provide treatment recommendations and specialist support to the multidisciplinary team,



other health professionals and community support organisations as required and assist with clinical decision making and the planning, implementation and evaluation of care given to mental health patients to facilitate a person‑centred and recovery focused approach.
- Provide support and psycho‑education as appropriate and involve consumers and their families/significant others in the identification of their needs, formulation of goals, development of care plans and the implementation of care.

You will need

- Experience in mental health, clinical nursing experience directly applicable to mental health settings.
- Sound understanding or ability to develop understanding of relevant statutory, departmental procedures, and policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed care principles.

Eligibility

- Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or postgraduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualifications; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital‑based program that led to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom.
- Current Driver’s Licence.

- Desirable:



Extensive relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses or equivalent.
- Desirable: Holds, or is working towards, relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Desirable: Five or more years’ postgraduate clinical nursing experience.

Details of appointment

Permanent part‑time, shift worker position (fully rotational), working 74 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$109,767 to $115,813 per annum (pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. Post‑Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.
